The PDP Governorship candidate in the Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel,Monday got another round of massive endorsements in his governorship bid, as five major groups including the Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo communities as well as building material dealers and members of National Association of Automobile Technicians in Nigeria, NATAN, formally declared support for his emergence as the next governor of the state.
Speaking through their leaders including, Alhaji Aliyu Umaru Mayo, of the Hausa Community, Sunday Ogunlolu, Yoruba Community, Elder. Emmanuel Chukwu Nsii, of the Igbo Community, Mrs. Ekaette Colins Onuoha , representing Igbo Women and Mr. Ubong Obot,(Ubotex), Leader of Uyo Building Material Dealers Association, and Aloysius John the leader of the National Association of Automobile Technicians (NATAN),the group congratulated the PDP flag bearer for emerging victorious during the party primary and vowed to vote massively for Udom Emmanuel in the forthcoming governorship election and President Good luck Jonathan.
They expressed happiness that a member of the business community is flying the PDP governorship ticket in the state, noting that with Udom Emmanuel as governor come May 29th this year, the private sector will have cause to smile.
Responding, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who received the delegation at his campaign office in Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, thanked the different groups for their decision to come together in support of his gubernatorial ambition, saying he was humbled by their show of solidarity.
While presenting his blueprint for the state, the PDP candidate promised to sustain the legacy of the free and compulsory education of the current administration, and commended Governor Akpabio for his transformational leadership in state.
Addressing the gathering, the governorship hopeful promised to create a value chain for the growth of the private sector in the state and by extension the people of the state through wealth and job creation.
The former SSG and ex-Zenith Bank executive director who was flanked by his running mate Mr Moses Ekpo and some members of the State executive council, vowed to operate an open door administration where both indigenes and non- indigenes residing in the state will feel a sense of belonging.
He informed the group that his government will be partnering with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, with a view of ensuring that small and medium scale funds that accrue into the state gets to the private sector with special focus on women, irrespective of their places of origin.
While promising to ensure that the state enjoy the benefits of a cosmopolitan city, the chattered accountant asserted that with the dwindling revenue from oil, the State needs a governor who is globally creative in thinking and with the capacity needed to drive an independent economy to yield returns on investment.
