Udom’s detractors are desperate for power, says PRP

BY KENNETH JUDE

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP),  has condemned the wild attacks on the governor of Akwa Ibom State,  Mr. Udom Emmanuel over the proposed renovation of the governor’s lodge in Lagos State.

The party made their position known at the weekend while speaking with newsmen in Uyo.

They noted that the N9.1 Billion Naira being circulated around is false and lacking in good taste and warned those circulating the falsehood to desist forthwith.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Reverend Aniebet Emmanuel and made available to THE INK, the party called on those behind the rumour to desist from it and rather join hands with Governor Udom Emmanuel to build a better future for “our generation, because we have no other State to call ours than Akwa Ibom.”

They stressed that those criticising the governor today did same when ex-Governor Attah embarked on the Airport project among others. “ We should know that the same citizens criticised Governor Victor Attah when he embarked on developmental projects like Ibom International Airport, Ibom Power Plant, Five Star Hotel and so on. They also criticized Chief Godswill Akpabio when he embarked on Godswill International Stadium, New Governor’s Lodge in Uyo, Flyovers, etc.

Reverend Aniebet Emmanuel who is also the State director of Media of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), explained that the party made findings on the issue and discovered that the governor never budgeted N9.1b as speculated but that what was budgeted in the 2017 budget was N500m while N700m was captured in the supplementary budget which amounted to N1.2 billion.

It warned critics to purge themselves of the culture of antagonising leaders but should always support them to succeed. He highlighted some of the projects commissioned by the governor that has eased the plight of the people like the Power Sub Station that has led to improved electricity supply in the State, roads and several other life touching projects that were criticized initially.

The party noted further that some of those criticising the governor don’t reside in the State hence are not aware of the strides recorded by the current administration. It cautioned detractors, adding that the governor should be supported to conclude his four years in office.

“His Excellency was voted into power for four years and should be allowed to concentrate on delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Akwa Ibom State.”

They maintained that as stakeholders in the State, it will not allow people desperate for the office of the governor to cause havoc, disunity and breach the security and peaceful coexistence of of all and sundry.

It called on the people to disregard the rumoured amount and continue to have confidence in Governor Udom Emmanuel.

PRP reassured the governor of their support for his administration, noting that with the blue print he came with and his strides so far, they do not doubt his ability to do more.

The party urged Gov. Emmanuel to disregard and forgive those behind the said rumour and continue with his lofty vision for the State and her citizens.
