Traditional Ruler advocates clear constitution roles for Royal Fathers …says Udom Emmanuel is performing

A prominent traditional ruler in Oro Nation and village head of Eyo Nku in Okobo Local Government Area, Chief Emmanuel Okon Akpa has advocated distinctive constitutional and statutory roles for, village and clan heads as well as paramount rulers in Nigeria.

To this end, the highly revered royal father has urged both state and national assembly men to fashion out laws that would, as from traditional rulers playing their age-long roles in their different domains, also step a bit further in being part of governance.

According to him, starting from local governments to states and national levels, traditional rulers apart from constituting and being members of Council of Chiefs should similar form part of administrative positions at the three tiers.

Chief Akpa who was speaking in his Eyo Nku near Oti-Oro with journalist, asserted that since there were clear indications that most of the traditional rulers now occupying positions as village and clan heads, paramount rulers, first, second and third class Chiefs across the nation, their involvement in local, state and national bodies would augur well for adequate translation, interpretation and supervision of government projects at those levels.


Chief Akpa who opined that Governor Udom Emmanuel was doing well particularly with short-fall in federated monthly allocations to the federating units however enjoy the team players to shun absolute commitment, effective representation and regular presentation of score cards to ensure the even spread of dividends of democracy.

Narrowing down his suggestions, the royal father expressed enthusiasm over recent constituency briefing of the member representing Okobo in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and Deputy Speaker, Princess Felicia Bassey, pointing out that her political representation so far has brought joy, satisfaction and progress to the women and unemployed youths in the area.

Chief Akpa appealed for opening and rehabilitation of more roads in his domain even as he solicited sustainable government presence in form of establishment of cottage industries and rewarding agricultural ventures in the area.

Commenting on the nagging issues of who succeeds the late Paramount Ruler of Okobo Local Government  who joined his ancestor, arrangement of obsequies which will come of next week, Chief Akpa disclosed that the stool must definitely be occupied by the most suitable and highly experienced Clan Head from Atak-Oro axis of Okobo Local Government Area, Offong Bassey Okon Bassey, popularly called (BOB) and expressed optimism that their brother Chiefs from the Okobo axis will not hesitate to play the fraternal comradeship.
