Former G22 member, Chief Marcus Okuku, Ayang Ayang and many others are among the group of eminent personalities that have floated a new socio-political group known as Ibom Mega Alliance, IMA.
Promoters of the group apart from the duo include some members of the State Executive Council, Council Chairman of Oruk Anam LGA, former AKHA legislators, former council Chairmen and other politicians with grassroots appeal.
The group which is purely intellectually based with grassroots appeal has former Council Chairman of Onna Local Government Area, Mr. Pat Ifon leading the strategic committee while Dr. Eventus Edem leads the round table committee even as Comfort William, the Press Secretary to Mrs. Unoma Godswill Akpabio is a member of the intellectual roundtable committee.
THE INK can report authoritatively that the group is designed to have a distinctively intellectual outlook.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the second meeting of the group in Ewet Housing in Uyo, the Director of Programmes of the body, Dr. Charles Mbong said IMA is birthed to join other groups towards actualizing the 2019 bid for Governor Udom Emmanuel. He described IMA as a grassroots based organization that will ensure visitation to all the nooks and crannies of the state towards making Udom Emmanuel’s 2nd term bid a reality.
Director of programmes of IMA adumberated further that IMA is a body that will ensure that the benefits of re-electing Udom Emmanuel for a second term is made known to Akwa Ibom people.
He maintained that the Governor’s antecedents two years into office is legendary and said that legendary achievements of the Governor is the driving force behind their canvassing a second term for the Akwa Ibom Chief Executive.
When our reporter contacted Ekong Sampson who is the Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Affairs, the former Assemblyman described Udom as an asset to Nigeria. He acknowledged that he is aware of the emergence of the group and that it is a very much welcome development.
Ekong Sampson speaking further said, a lot of groups in Akwa Ibom State are showing interest in Udom’s re-election. He attributed this to what he referred to as the Governor’s superlative performance even in two years in office. He described those interested in Udom’s re-election as very genuine and concerned Akwa Ibomites and added that as SA political, he will ensure that the Governor gets a second tenure in office.
He called on every individual irrespective of political religious and cultural attachments to join hands with Governor Emmanuel as according to him, Udom is the best for Akwa Ibom from 2015 – 2023.
