Widespread commendation have continued to trail last Friday’s reception and honour for Governor Udom Emmanuel, his wife Martha Udom Emmanuel and the Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo by Abak women at the first ever Abak Women’s Day celebration.

The event featured an avalanche of personalities from all works of life and provided an avenue to behold the beauty of togetherness, philanthropy and harmonious co-existence that has enveloped the political atmosphere of the area in the last ten years.

Some respondents attributed the extensive unity among the women of the area to the massive mobilization and empowerment gestures of wife of the immediate past Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Maureen Aniekan Umanah, who many described as a leader that has pulled down the walls of gender dichotomy to give the women from all social spectrums a voice.

Setting the tone for the event, Mrs. Umanah, who was Chairman Central Planning Committee for the event, commended the honourees for their commitment to mandate delivery and lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for his gender sensitive disposition in ensuring women are key beneficiaries of programmes and policies of his administration.

She heralded the governor’s choice of Mrs. Ekemini David Umoh into his State Executive Council as Special Adviser Bureau of Rural Development and Co-operative, saying the decision is a major boost to women of the area to live above certain prejudices in working to fulfill the gender parity dream.

Umanah who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Executive Options Media recounted the numerous strides of the governor’s wife Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel who she noted has evolved a practicable empowerment and sustainable economic model for women of the state through her pet project, the Family Empowerment and Youth Re-orientation Programmes (FEYReP).

The Advertorial expert thanked the Deputy Governor Mr. Moses Ekpo for the experience and maturity he has brought into leadership of the state which she noted has transcended to the peace and stability the system has enjoyed and said women of the area were happy with his activities which has brought the area more acclaim.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after leading the women in a march-past, she averred that her active participation was borne out of her sustained advocacy to bridge the social gap and bring the women together under one platform, emphasizing that building confidence in the rural women through frequent interfaces was pivotal.

She promised the unalloyed support of women from the 98 villages of the area to the current state administration, announcing that plans have been perfected to ensure the success of the ongoing INEC registration exercise so that no woman is disenfranchised from supporting Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2019.

It would be recalled that Mrs. Maureen Umanah has in the last nine years served as the fulcrum behind the united women’s front in Abak, as she has through her innumerable philanthropic gestures seen to their socioeconomic wellbeing through skills acquisitions, supports, interventions, business start-ups, trainings, seminars and workshops, which has made her a focal point for the women.

Recall also that in 2015, she personally went round markets in Abak on an outreach where she distributed lots of cash and items as she interacted with the women from stall to stall, drumming support for the governor and other candidates of the PDP, and for the 2019 elections has promised an improvement on her previous mobilization effort to ensure the area churns out more votes in support of the Governor’s second term bid.

Highpoint of the event was presentation of awards to the Governor, his wife and deputy governor as various stakeholders presented their goodwill messages, while the governor’s wife doled out empowerment packages to hundreds of women and youths of the area.
