The management of Akwa Ibom State University, AKSU has mentioned the name of former Governor of the State, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio as one who will be decorated with an honourary doctorate degree when the institution will be conducting her 2nd and 3rd Convocation exercise later this week.
Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Eno Ibanga stated this last weekend during a media briefing in the institution’s main campus, Ikot Akpaden in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
The University Don explained that the Institution is fast becoming a hub of academic excellence and promised that graduands of AKSU will be able to measure up with their contemporaries anywhere in the world.
He announced that the Institution has staff strength of about one thousand, four hundred and eighty eight while he perked the students’ population at seven thousand eight Hundred and fifty seven.
Speaking on the accreditation status of courses offered in the institution, Prof. Eno Ibanga explained that the Institution is running 35 programes with 25 having attained the status of full accreditation while 10 have gotten interim accreditation.
The Vice Chancellor however expressed optimism that on the next NUC visit, that the institution will have the ten programmes with interim accreditation fully accredited.
He spoke on the educational outputs of the graduands and said, it is worthy of commendation and celebration.The Mkpat Enin born administrator gave a summary of students performance and informed that over ten students will be graduating with First Class Division. He explained further that two of the first class products have emerged overall best students with CGPA ranging between 4.65 to 4.87
The Vice Chancellor however declined mentioning the names of the best graduating students and said they will be unveiled during the convocation ceremony this week.
Prof. Ibanga also announced the University’s decision to begin post graduate studies in the institution, adding that arrangements have been concluded to make that a reality.
While speaking on staff welfare package, the University Vice Chancellor stated that the management team of the institution deserves to be appreciated for regularizing the employment of some staff who hitherto had shaky and unconfirmed appointments. He spoke also on the relationship with the SUG and described it as cordial. He said, the SUG has been given a free hand to operate without any interference.
The AKSU Chief Executive said the institution has zero tolerance for cultism and warned against students’ involvement in it. Speaking on some of his achievements in AKSU, he said “we also have an untra modern Theatre Arts studio as well as a state of the art English language laboratory. Our Mass Communication studio is the best of its kind. AKSU is actively collaborating with the Government of Akwa Ibom State to diversify into various commercial agricultural enterprises to ensure food sufficiency.”
Prof. Eno Ibanga maintained that “we will continue to be proactive in meeting the demands of a growing, dynamic and charging community of staff, students and other stakeholders. Our goal is to be the institution of choice for prospective students and people seeking a future in Academics”.
