To further deepen the relationship between the legislature and other arms of government, the leadership and members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Tuesday played host to the Special Adviser, Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs, Rt. Hon. Barr. Ekong Sampson at the Assembly complex .
It would be recalled that the leadership of the House of Assembly had announced the readiness of legislature to commence a regular interface with other arms of government for the purpose of strengthening the cordial relationship existing between them.
Receiving the Governor’s aide, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke noted that the visit was in line with the commitment of the 6th Assembly to ensure that the existing harmony between the legislature and other arms of government was strengthened for the purpose of advancing development in the state.
“This is a part of our promised engagement between the legislature and other arms of government. We want to commend the Honourable Special Adviser for taking the first shot to come here to visit us on a familiarization visit since after his appointment into this office as the bridge between the legislature and the executive.
This will strengthen the relationship between the legislature and other arms of government. It is only in the atmosphere of peace, unity that we can have development. We have seen the result of that cooperation”.
Barr. Luke said the House is united as one family, and is irrevocably committed to partnering Governor Udom Emmanuel to enable him fulfill his campaign promises to the citizenry. Making reference to the de-flooding of Nsikak Eduok Avenue for which the House had approved funds for the project, Speaker Luke expressed delight that even while the contractor was yet to complete work on the project site, the flood has disappeared from the spot after the recent heavy rainfall witnessed last week.
Earlier, the Special Adviser, Barr. Sampson who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Nse Edem, explained that the visit was geared towards deepening the relationship existing between the executive and the legislature. He commended the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly for working in harmony with the executive in furthering the development of the state.
He noted that Governor Emmanuel has only been able to achieve so much in just two years because the House has been supportive.
“Without the support, the governor may not have achieved what it has achieved. Watching the House proceedings from a distance, the House is really doing well. The range and depth of discourses does not fail to impress some of us who have travelled this road. I have said severally that other Houses of Assembly should learn from Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.”
He assured that the partnership will be sustained for the larger interest of Akwa Ibom people. The Special Adviser used the opportunity to canvass the support of the lawmakers in the ongoing voter registration exercise and National Identity Card registration, urging them to take the campaign to their respective constituencies in order to mobilize their constituents to embrace the exercise.
