The Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo Prof Enefiok Essien has ordered Fulani herdsmen to move their cattle from the various campuses belonging to University within two weeks.
Professor Essien gave the directive in Uyo on Monday during a meeting with representatives of Fulani herdsmen, led by Alhaji Farouk Miyeti Allah.
According to a statement by the Director of Public Relations, Mr. Godfrey Essien, the ultimatum began on April 28 and expires on Thursday 11th May, 2017. The statement added that the meeting was crucial to the peace and unity of the university.
The Vice Chancellor said there have been constant movements of cattle around the university’s main campus and other campuses. He advised the leadership of the herdsmen to restraint their animals from tresspassing the institution to avoid dispute.
Professor Essien directed the Chief Security Officer of the University Lt.-Col. Victor Efik (retd), to liaise with the leaders of the herdsmen and ensure that the cows were taken out of the campuses within two weeks.
