The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly during her Thursday last week’s sitting has directed the State Governor Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel to relief Mrs. Elsie Esara the Transition Chairman of Itu Local Government Area of her position saying that the woman lacks the competency to continue as a Local Government helmsman.
This was a part of the report on the appearance of Esara on the floor of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Wednesday, May 10 2017. The report which was read to members of the Assembly by Barr Onofiok Luke who is the Speaker of the Assembly noted that Esara has breached the oath of office and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which she swore to protect.
Barr Luke who presided over the interrogation of Elsie Esara as Chairman of the committee on the whole is the whole signatory in the report.
The legislators in their report maintained that, ‘the respondent Mrs. Elsie Esara lacks capacity to hold or continue to hold public office, having shown her inability to respect, protect and uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Grund Norm and not being law abiding. That up to date, the House of Assembly has not been served with the Notice of Discontinuance of the law suit she brought against the House.
That Mrs. Esara, can neither take an independent decision or responsibility nor accept responsibility over her actions or inactions. She blames others for her actions; her oral testimony before the House was doubtful and unconvincing. That Mrs. Esara has no regard for constituted authority and cannot be relied upon in matters of public interest’.
Furthermore, ‘the Committee vehemently condemns and frowns at the attitude of Mrs. Elsie Esara, Chairman Transition Committee, Itu Local Government Council and hereby recommends as follows; That Mrs. Esara should appear, before the House committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on the invitation of the Committee to answer to the petition brought against her. The House, urges His Excellency Deacon Udom Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, to relief and/or appropriately sanction Mrs. Elsie Esara for breaching her Oath of Office, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Akwa Ibom State Local Government Administration Law to serve as deterrent to others’.
Members unanimously consented to the report. It is however remain to be seen whether the Governor will honour or act in line with the recommendations of the Assembly.
In a related Development Elsie Esara’s transition committee members have risen against any attempt by the Transition Committee Chairman to use them as scapegoats in her ongoing predicaments. In a petitioned signed by five members of the committee, they maintained that while they rely on the contents of their earlier petition that they did not at any point in time mentioned that the First Lady of the State Martha Emmanuel is touching their funds in Itu.
They said it was Elsie Esara who mentioned the First Lady’s name. They maintained that their agitation is not for selfish reasons but rather for the progress and development of Itu LGA.
