Okoro gave the advise during a three-day free medical test and treatment with the Theme “Caring for the Masses”, in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
She said the people should continue to be conscious of their health, environment and life-style patterns in order to minimize the development of diseases in their bodies.
Okoro said that the people should visit medical experts for regular check up.
“We should also strive to widen our knowledge of disease prevention as we carefully listen to the numerous workshops and seminars packaged for us in the course of the event.
Okoro said that the free medical test and treatment was to commemorate the 55th Independence Anniversary Celebration of the country.
She said that the essence of the free medical test and treatment was to add value to the people by reaching out to them.
She noted the House of Diagnosis is a ministry and not a business, saying that the Diagnosis cares for the people of Eket and its environs.
Okoro said that House of Diagnosis began as a vision but has now become a mission.
She said that she was committed to make House of Diagnosis to become a global phenomenon in the field of diagnosis, research and a one-stop shop for any kind of investigative procedure in existence.
“We are using this forum to give back to the community that has welcomed and accommodated us for years,’’ she said.
She said that beneficiaries were tested for different kinds of sicknesses including Malaria, Typhoid, Fever, Cancer, HIV among others.
Okoro noted that during the Outreach many patients were HIV positive.
She said that House of Diagnosis was collaborating with the Society for Family Health (SFH) and Family Health International (FHI) to counsel and treat patients.
“The counselors of SFH and FHI talks to patients who are HIV positive and promise to give free drugs for life and if people did not come for the treatment, they wouldn’t have known.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, Dr Ogbobe Clement in the House of Diagnosis said that outreach was not just to diagnose and treat ailments but to also create awareness of the ailments.
He said the House of Diagnosis would continue to seek and promote preventive measures rather that curative measures.
“For instance cancers like cervical and breast cancer can be prevented and can also be treated if detected early.
“We are also here to correct some miss conceptions bordering on some health issues, we all know that HIV is not a killer disease any more.
“You can live comfortable with it and live your normal life with it if you know your status early and do what you are expected to do.
Chairman of the occasion, Chief Assamudo Usoro thanked the organizers of the programme for improving the life of the people, saying that health is wealth.
Usoro urged other professional bodies to take a cue from the House of Diagnosis. He called on the indigenes to come out en-mass and make the best out of the free medical test and treatment in the area.
He advised the indigenes to check their status from time to time for healthy living
In his remarks, Chairman, Eket Transitional Committee, Mr Frank Archibong, expressed appreciation to the organisers of the programme, saying that the large turnout of people was impressive.
“If we all could put in a little humanitarian service in Life, I think it will make meaning to so many people, Madam for honouring Nigeria at 55, God will honour you.
“For recognising Nigeria and putting in this magnitude of service, Nigeria will honour you,’’ he said.
Archibong described the free medical test and treatment as “uncommon feat”, while urging the organisers of the programme not to relent in giving more service to the people.
He promised to support the programme while calling on others to put in more service for the development of the country.
”If everybody could put in service, I think the change we are looking for would have being achieved seamlessly,’’ he said.
