The first lady gave the charge when she received a delegation of the management staff of National Directorate of Employment led by the directorSouth-south zone,Pastor Joseph Ekpeyong who came on a courtesy visit in her office.
Mrs. Emmanuel commended the Directorate for their efforts in curbing unemployment in the state and the nation at large. She noted that hard work, commitment and dedication are the only virtues that can guarantee good success, and urged the team to engage the trainees in intensive trainings to achieve the desired goals.
She added that the task of developing, training and empowering the youths and women remains the collective responsibility of all, assuring them that her platform, Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Program (FEYReP) is on a mission to empower Akwa Ibom families and reorient the youths, as they are the bedrock of the society.
The Governor’s wife also noted that FEYReP is in unison with the recently launched ‘Dakkada’ campaign as it is a clarion call for Akwa Ibom citizens to change their mindset to that of greatness and inculcate the ‘I can do spirit’.
In his remarks, the South-south director of the National Directorate of Employment, Pastor Joseph Ekpeyong expressed delight to the Governor’s wife for granting them audience and commended the Governor on his giants’ strides towards industrializing the state. He hinted that NDE is an apex Government establishment charged with the responsibility of employment generation for the teeming unemployed population in the country, saying the organization operates on four major intervention areas which are: Vocational Skills Acquisition Training, Entrepreneurial(business) Training, Training for Rural Employment and Training for Labour based-work Programe.
The director pledged to collaborate with the industrialization drive of the Governor and called on Akwa Ibom citizens to rise to the faith of greatness by equipping themselves with marketable skills for self-reliance. He also solicited for assistance from the First Lady to empower the recently trained 50 women by the establishment on ‘beads and wire works’ as this will help to generate income for themselves and family.
Those in attendance were the State Director NDE, Mr. Promise Ekah, Assistant Director Special Public and Works Department, Mr. Friday Effiom, Assistant Director, Small Scale and Medium Enterprise (SME), Mr. Simon Umoh. Others were Assistant Director Vocational and skills acquisition Mr. Harry Anah and Mrs. Uduak Essien, secretary of the group.
