Some Peoples Democratic Party Stalwarts in Ibesikpo Asutan has described as totally baseless, false and misleading a report in a state based tabloid (not THE INK) which alleged that the former PDP state Chairman Prince Uwem Ita Etuk was involved in the murder of a certain Richard Friday Okon during the last elections held across the state.
In his reaction Mr. Usoro Usoro said the APC in Ibesikpo and in the state are still licking the wounds of their defeat by the Peoples Democratic Party to the extent that they have plotted to recruit some state based papers sympathetic to their cause to launch a campaign of calumny against Prince Uwem Ita Etuk.
The PDP chieftain said, “A local newspaper in the state had on it’s Thursday October, 1, 2015 edition, carried a front banner story with the caption “Uwem Ita Etuk Linked to murder of Ibesikpo Indigene during Gov/AKHA Polls”( with a rider)
...As autopsy from Police Hqtrs reveals victim was shot by AK47 Rifle”.
Investigation has revealed that Uwem Ita Etuk has no hand in the said murder of the deceased”.
Usoro Usoro in his reaction stated that, whereas, the said incident happened on the day of Presidential election which was conducted in March and not on the day of the Governorship/House of Assembly polls which held in April as erroneously reported in the newspaper.
Mr. Usoro Usoro, an indigene of Nung Udoe, who voted at the same polling unit with Prince Uwem Ita Etuk, who spoke with the media, absolved the former PDP chairman from the murder of Richard.
According to him “Uwem is a nice man. Don’t mind what his detractors are writing about him”. “He voted at unit 003 market square on the day of the election and there after went to his house after voting. That is also my voting unit”.
“He has no hand in the said murder.
“Uwem voted at Nung Udoe, Unit 003 while the reported murder took place at Mbierebe Akpawat. Look at the distance; Mbierebe is a different place far away from Nung Udoe” - Usoro added.
The Party stalwart said the information he received about the incident that happened at Mbierebe is that “The Late Richard blocked government road on the day the Presidential election was conducted and at the time collation of results were ongoing at the collation centre, he started throwing stones, bottles and other dangerous weapons at law enforcement agents who were in the area to maintain law and order”
Prince Uwem does not even know the boy. It is not true that Uwem sent anybody to kill anyone as being speculated. Mr. Usoro summarized
Similarly, an indigene of Mbierebe Akpawat, Iniobong Okon who voted at unit 004, Primary School, Mbierebe Akpawat, while reacting to the story, said some people from the opposition party, APC went on thuggery in another unit after election had ended and that was how the Late Richard Okon was shot by the stray bullets of law enforcement agencies.
Describing the allegation against Uwem Ita Etuk as totally false, Iniobong Okon hinted that Uwem Ita Etuk was not at Mbierebe unit during the election.
The source further disclosed that the deceased, Richard Frederick Okon was killed by stray bullets from security operatives who were at Obot Idim in Mbierebe to ward off some thugs who blocked the Eket Highway road in Mbierebe akpawat.
He further advised politicians in the area to always desist from character assassination, describing the story as a deliberate attempt by Uwem’s detractors who are not comfortable with his rising political profile and are bent on dragging him to the mud.
Mr. Iniobong who called on the Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning to ignore their antics, urged him to continue in his good works to Ibesikpo Asutan as recently seen in the offer of free medical treatment to over 3000 indigenes of the area.
