The nephew of the state Chief Executive Prince Ukpong Akpabio has been alleged to have rained abuses and insults on the PDP gubernatorial candidate Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel. Sources who were privy to the incidence hinted our reporter that the action of Prince Akpabio was enough to portray that if Udom emerges the Governor and some members of Akpabio’s family are not checked, then the Onna born banker cum politician would be hijacked for the interest of a selfish few.
Our reporter understands that Prince Akpabio even went as far as saying “who is Udom Emmanuel in Akwa Ibom politics.” He is said to have also queried why Udom is already seeing himself as the Governor amongst other unprinted manner of words.
This, recent reports have confirmed, is already manifesting, though the involved parties had tried hard to keep the information from breaking through the cabal, moreso, getting down to the general public.
However, it was not an all successful venture for the cabal this time, as the story broke through even sooner than was expected.
An aide to a senior member of the Akpabio’s kitchen cabal told this reporter in confidence how Prince Ukpong Akpabio shouted down his supposed new principal, Udom, during a phone conversation where they both disagreed over an issue.
Udom had put a call across to the governor’s cousin who is an Aide to the governor, the source confirmed, to caution him against irregularities noticed and attributed to him in the state’s youth council which he (Udom) felt, may not be friendly to his winning chances at the April guber poll.
In the process, the governor’s cousin, Prince who is widely known to be very arrogant, flared up and got even angrier than his new principal.
According to the source, “you needed to hear how Prince insulted Udom on phone that day, abusing him and calling him a nobody. To tell you the truth, despite that I saw when the call started; I almost did not believe it was Udom he was talking like that”.
Also, the governor, according to the source, upon getting wind of the development, was so angry with his cousin, so as other members of the Akpabio dynasty and the governor had later ordered Prince to go and apologise to Udom immediately.
“ Trust Prince and his arrogance now, he quickly declined and started asking who Udom is and why he should go and apologize to him. He also started boasting of how he has the capacity to survive without being part of Udom’s government, and how he can bring him down if he wants to.
As at the time of time press, the story remained that Prince was still resolute on his stand never to apologize to Udom, while information from another source close to Udom had it that Udom has been trying hard on his part not to allow his clash with Prince affect his attitude towards the rest of the Akpabios, but it was however predicted that should things continue this way, it may not take long before things begin to fall apart between both parties- that is, if Udom eventually becomes the governor.
An inside source told our reporter that a minor argument were Udom was trying to push a point across to Prince led to the younger Akpabio flaring up and beginning to rain insults on the man on phone and even went as far as dropping the call on Udom Emmanuel.
An angered Udom is said to have quickly sent a call across to the Governor were he complained bitterly over Prince insulting attitude. Governor Akpabio is said to have pleaded with Udom Emmanuel to calm down that he will definitely resolve the matter as soon as possible.
In a bid to resolve the matter, the Governor sources said had advised Prince to apologize to Mr. Udom Emmanuel with a promise that such issue will not arise again. But as at the time of filing in this report, those who are in Akpabio’s kitchen cabinet that confided in our reporter said, it is likely that Prince Akpabio has not yet apologized to Mr. Udom Emmanuel. As soon as the attitude of Prince Akpabio against Udom went to the public glare, core supporters of Udom Emmanuel are said to have expressed very serious bitterness over the matter and were threatening that if Prince Akpabio is not called to order, they will be left with no other option but to take on the Essien Udim born Prince Akpabio whom they described as a young man that has no pedigree to challenge Udom Emmanuel.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Prince Akpabio will be insulting Mr. Udom Emmanuel. Sources say sometimes ago when the PDP candidate returned to Uyo in one of his trips outside the state, he met with and shook hands briefly with a certain guy called IBB at the airport. This development eye witnesses say did not go down well with Prince Akpabio who got angry and asked why Udom would go and greet IBB when he, Prince Akpabio was there.
With the recent development, it is doubtful if Udom will wish to work with Prince Akpabio or any ally of Prince if he wins the Governorship of the state.
