The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaigns in Uyo Senatorial district got off to a flying start on Wednesday as the party kick started what political observers have termed a likely tsunami at the polls as the party looks set to consolidate its grip at the State Assembly and National Assembly elections at next month’s general elections.
At a grand rally on Wednesday in Uyo to flag off the Senatorial rally in Uyo, the party created history as it embarked on an aggressive campaign among the four clans of Uyo which received a rousing welcome at each stop.
The mammoth crowd which welcomed the campaign team at Ikono Clan in Uyo Local government Area expressed joy at the quality of candidates the Peoples Democratic Party was presenting at the polls as they described Obong Bassey Albert Akpan, the Senatorial District Flag bearer of the party as an exemplary leader whose achievements over the years in the private and public sector had distinguished him as a leader that would take the welfare of his Constituents at heart at the National Assembly.
The Uyo people also described the duo of Engr. (Dr) Mike Enyong who is the candidate for Uyo Federal Constituency and Hon. Monday Eyo for Uyo State Constituency as men of integrity that would project the interest of the area at the legislature.
In his remarks, the Chapter Chairman of the party in Uyo, Hon. Godwin George assured the people that Uyo will not join the opposition in the next dispensation as the mistake of 2011 had deprived the people of quality representation in the last four years.
The Chapter Chairman further stated that the party in Uyo remains united and will succeed in delivering Obong Bassey Albert for the Senate, Mike Enyong for House of Representatives and Monday Eyo for the State legislature .
The Ward Executives from Ikono Clan in their remarks while pledging their support to OBA and other candidates appealed that the challenges of the area be addressed when they are sworn in with regards to the infrastructure in the area.
A woman leader from the area, Mrs Mense Obot also speaking at the event assured OBA and his team of the loyalty of the women of Ikono Clan as they had been mobilised to deliver the party at all levels at the general elections.
The woman leader also said that the women were satisfied with the sterling qualities of OBA, Enyong and Eyo describing them as the new dawn of effective leaders in Uyo Senatorial District.
An elder in the Clan, Chief Clement Ekott described OBA as the leader that would bring the dividends of democracy to Ikono Clan and promised the campaign team that the area would fully support the aspirations of all the candidates at the polls.
One of the highlights at the rally in Ikono Clan was the motion moved by Councillors from Uyo Senatorial District adopting OBA, Enyong and Eyo for their respective offices aspired to succeed at the general elections.
The motion was moved by Hon. Inemesit Ubokudom from Nsit Ibom while Hon.Unwana John seconded.
In his remarks, the Deputy chairman of the party in Uyo Senatorial District, Barr. Dominic Okon while presenting all three candidates to the mammoth crowd said that the PDP is ready to win Uyo and that the mistake of 2011 was a thing of the past as the people have united to support the incoming government led by Udom Emmanuel.
He further mobilised support for the victory of Mr. Udom Emmanuel and re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
He re-affirmed that the opposition has no stance in Uyo Senatorial District as the party had now taken firm control of the political structures of the area and would carry the people along in giving quality democratic dividends.
The flag bearer of the party for Uyo Senatorial District, Obong Bassey Albert Akpan while being presented to the people of Ikono Clan said that the opposition party had failed the people of Uyo since 2011 and urged the people of the area to vote overwhelmingly for the PDP at the polls.
OBA assured the people of Uyo that his mission to the Eight Senate was to empower his people and ensure that their standard of living improves as he promised to take leadership to new heights of good governance.
The PDP Senatorial flag bearer who is highly favoured to win the Senatorial elections by a landslide at the polls urged the people of Uyo to join mainstream politics as the Udom Emmanuel administration as Governor of Akwa Ibom State would consolidate on the gains of the Akpabio administration and support the transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
OBA said the general elections next month must be total victory for the PDP from the Presidential/ National Assembly on February 14. 2015 to the Governorship/ House of Assembly on February 28, 2015.
At the St. Michael’s Primary School at Effiat Offot, the campaign team was warmly received by the teeming crowd of party faithful including the Executive Chairman of Uyo, Hon, Ekerete Ekpenyong as speaker after speaker heralded the candidacy of the trio of OBA, Enyong and Eyo while pledging to mobilise support for Udom Emmanuel’s victory as the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State and the re-election of President Jonathan.
A former council chairman of Uyo, Dr. Chris Nyong assured the campaign train that the mistake of 2011 was regrettable but appealed that the Independent Electoral Commission should facilitate the issuance of more Permanent Voters Card (PVC) for the electorate and that the awareness and acceptance of the PDP in the electoral process had set the party on the path of victory.
The reception at St. Joseph’s Primary School, Oku was an atmosphere that electrified the populace as the women trooped out in their thousands welcoming the campaign team who urged them not to lose focus in voting the umbrella , the symbol of the Peoples Democratic Party at the polls.
Hon. Fidelis Eddie a former Council Chairman in Uyo, Hon Aniedi Ndem and Hon Nse Joshua in their different remarks assured the PDP of total victory at the polls.
For the people of Mbak Etoi, the visit of the Senatorial campaign team was a homecoming as the Executive Chairman of Uyo, Prince Ekerete Ekpenyong received the team and pledged his loyalty to the victory of OBA, Enyong, Eyo, Udom and Jonathan at the polls
