Ikot Afaha inaugurates Village/Youth councils, vows to vote PDP

It was a memorable day in  the history of Ikot Afaha   Village in Abak local government area when a new executive of the Village Council, the Women Council and the Youth Council were inaugurated.

The event which took place at the Village Hall, started with a Solemn Assembly which was attended by the Village Head, Obong Emmanuel Thompson Ekpo and wife, Elders, women and youths.

In his homely, Pastor Sylvester Edet Asuquo of the Wide World Prayer and Healing Mission who spoke on the topic “Walk in Blameless” commended the people of the village for their wisdom to hand over the new executives to pilot the affairs of the village into the hand of God for guidance and protection.

Pastor Edet Asuquo called on the people of Ikot Afaha to continue to hold on to God, stressing that any foundation that is laid in God is bound to succeed.
At the Solemn Assembly, prayers were offered for the peace, unity and development of the village, the newly inaugurated executives, government at all levels, the forth-coming election among others.


Inaugurating the new executives, Pastor Edet Asuquo advised them to be transparent in their dealings and should join hands together and work for the development of the community.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Rev. Sunday Jimmy Udo, described the event as the first of its kind in the history of the village.
Rev. Udo noted that the election process was transparent, free and fair and expressed the hope that the new executive will work together for the development of the village.

On his part, the Councilor representing Abak Urban Ward 2 in Abak Legislative Council, Hon. Akaninyene Udotong congratulated the village on the inauguration of the new executives.

Represented by a former Councillorship aspirant in the Ward, Comrade Edidiong Emmanuel Thompson, the Councilor promised to do his best in the development of Ikot Afaha Village and the Ward in general. 

Also speaking, a Youth Activist and a grassroot mobilizer, Comrade Edidiong Thompson called on the people of the village to collect their permanent voters card to enable them vote during the forth-coming election.

The former Councillorship aspirant assured that the entire people of the village will vote for all the PDP Candidates, pointing out that there is no opposition party in the village.

Addressing the people of the village after the inauguration, the Village Head, Obong Emmanuel Thompson Ekpo thanked God for making the day possible and congratulated members of the newly-inaugurated executives.
Obong Ekpo called on them to join hands together and work for peace, unity and development of the village.

The Village Head used the occasion to commend the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio on the numerous achievements he has recorded in the state and assured him of the support of the people of his village to actualize his senatorial ambition. 

Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated executive, the Youth President, Mr. Friday Asuquo Sam, thanked God for making the day possible and prayed God to give them wisdom to discharge their duties effectively.
The Youth President promised to work together with the Village Head for the overall development of the Village.

The new Village Council has Obong Emmanuel Thompson Ekpo as the Chairman, Chief Charles Akpan Anaiko – Family Head, Chief Immanuel Dan Nkanta – Family Head, Chief Robson Ben Udoh – Family Head, Rev. Sunday Willie Udoh – Treasurer While Mr. Sunday Edet Ekpo is to serve as the Secretary. Others are; Mr. Godwin Edet Ekpo – Project Leader, Pastor Sunday Asuquo Sam – Financial Secretary, Mr. Friday Asuquo Sam – Youth Leader, Elder Effiong Sunday – Town Crier, Mr. Effiong Emmanuel Udo – Member, Elder Ezekiel Sampson Akpan – Member, Mr. Aniefiok Emmanuel Akpan – Palm Fruit Crier and Mr. Emmauel Jaja – Member.

At the end of the inauguration, the Village Head donated N50,000 for the take-off of the new Village Council, N50,000 to the Youth Council and N30,000 to the Women Council.
