Akpabio’s opponents are on their own - Gen. Afangideh

Akpabio’s opponents are on their own - Gen. Afangideh
With barely few  weeks to the general elections, the National Present of Ujo Afaha Obong, Brig. Gen. Godwin Afangideh (Rtd.) has said that those contesting the  Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District seat with Chief Godswill Akpabio are strictly on their own.

Gen. Afangideh who spoke with journalists at Abak recently, explained that Ujo Afaha Obong and the entire people of Abak have dissociated themselves from what he described as their selfish ambition. “Those contesting against Chief Godswill Akpabio for the Senatorial Seat are completely on their own as their profiles cannot march that of His Excellency,” Gen. Afangideh stated.

The Retired Army General advised them to bury such ambition and come back to support Chief Godswill Akpabio’s administration in the state under PDP and have for themselves a sense of belonging in the new administration.

The Afe Annang Secretary General expressed the hope that Chief Akpabio’s sojourn in the upper chambers of the National Assembly would be of immense benefit to the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in particular and the State in general. “I support the choice of His Excellency, Chief Godswill Akpabio for the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Seat because we believe he is in a better position because of his national and international image to provide effective representation and bring about democratic dividends to our people. He is well-exposed and being the Chairman of the PDP Governor’s Forum, he would have many allies that would support his motions and programmes in the Senate for the benefit of our people”, the retired General reasoned.

He commended Chief Godswill Akpabio for the numerous achievements he has recorded in the state since assumption of office as the State Chief Executive.
The Ujo Afaha Obong President listed some of the achievements of Chief Akpabio to include; the free and compulsory education policy, the free medical treatment to children, pregnant women and the aged, massive construction of roads across the state, construction of fly-overs, the Akwa Ibom International Airport, the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, the Tropicana, E-library among others.

The Elder Statesman specifically lauded Chief Akpabio for bringing back social and economic life back to Afaha Obong Junction through the construction of a dual-carriage way from Abak to Ikot Ekpene, and Afaha Obong-Etim Ekpo-Iwukem-Ika Road with both interconnecting at Afaha Obong Junction which he noted had been death economically.

On the expulsion of former President Olusegun Obasanjo from PDP in Ogun State, Gen. Afangideh (Rtd) described it as a party affair, stressing that the party knows why they have taken such decision.

The Ujo Afaha Obong President however blamed the former President for destroying his party membership card in the public. “He wouldn’t have taken the position that he took to the extent of destroying his party membership card in the public. It would have been more appreciated if he had taken the right procedure of resignation from his political party” said Gen. Afangideh.
