Umana promises development commission for Eket

Umana promises development commission for Eket

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Umana Okon Umana has promised to set up a special development commission to fast-track the building of modern infrastructure and human capacity in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, when he wins the February 28 governorship election in the state.

Mr. Umana Okon Umana who spoke during his campaign tour to the area, Saturday, bemoaned the poor state of roads and other infrastructure in Eket despite its status as an oil-producing local government area, and promised to turn the area into ‘a true urban city’.
“We must restore the glory and pride to Eket. We must bring back the days of Dr. Pepper and Qua Steel in Eket,” Umana spoke with passion to a large crowd of APC supporters who attended the party campaign rally in the area. The jubilant crowd cheered on as the APC governorship candidate reeled out several other things he said he would do for the people when elected as their next governor.

Mr. Umana reiterated his determination to get political power back to the people whom he said are the true owners of government, build a united and prosperous Akwa Ibom, create jobs and build a new generation of entrepreneurs.

“We must take back Akwa Ibom State. We have to stop one person and his family from acting as emperor over the rest of the people. We have to stop this disunity that (Gov. Godswill) Akpabio has introduced into Akwa Ibom State.

“You all are aware of the fact that Akwa Ibom money is spent in Abuja. The money Obong Victor Attah fought for our state is being lavished away in Abuja, while our people go hungry. We are going to stop it; Akwa Ibom money must be spent in Akwa Ibom State.

“Akpabio deliberately introduced hunger and poverty into Akwa Ibom State so that he can use Akwa Ibom money to manipulate the people during this election.

“For Udom to come out and say that Akpabio is his great teacher, it means that Udom will continue with Akpabio’s policy of running the State as a family estate. The only way you can express your anger against Akpabio and PDP is for you to use your vote,” said the APC governorship candidate.

Umana advised youths in Akwa Ibom State to look beyond employment in the state civil service when they graduate from university because, according to him, APC administration in the state has plans to support young entrepreneurs.

Umana who said he shared a closer bond with Eket people since “it takes only five minutes to drive to Eket from Ndiya in Nsit Ubium where I come from,” asked the people of Eket to vote him as their next governor and also vote for APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari and other candidates of the party during the February election.
