PDP Stakeholder decries erosion menace in Oron

PDP Stakeholder decries erosion menace in Oron

As the residents of Oron Metropolis,  particularly in Esin Ufot and Iquita Elder Fregene Esin (Otu-Okpono 1) areas continue to groan under the upsurge of erosion menace, a frontline stakeholder of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has sent a passionate appeal to both the State and Federal governments to make it a priority in tackling the phenomenon head-on.

This, he pointed out, could be done through a salient appraisal of the nagging erosion menace in concert with experts studies and recommendation.
Expressing these views in an interview with journalists in Oron, Elder Fregene Emmanuel Esin, a retired Senior Customs Officers, and as an elder of PDP in Oron expressed dismay that the once bubbling Marina area in Oron Town is now a ghost of itself as the menace of gully erosion has destroyed the aesthetics of the coastal community which also makes access to the Customs Barracks in Oron inaccessible.
Elder Esin, a title holder of Otu-Okpono 1 of Eyoabasi posited that unless the government takes urgent step to salvage the area from the surging erosion, more and more houses would be lost to the natural but preventable disaster.
He enjoined the government to go back to the drawing board and the documented master-plan of Oron Urban with a view to executing the recommendations and advocacy of the victims of the devastating destructions occasioned by the erosion menace in the area.

In an answer to a journalist’s question, Elder Fregene Esin frowned at the damaging insinuations that Oron has been lost to APC, while also emphasizing that the PDP structures in his ward and other wards in Oron Local Government were intact.

According to the Otu-Okpono (Giant Catcher) 1 of Eyoabasi, though the failure to the gubernatorial ticket by an Oro Son actually piqued the people of Oron Nation, defecting to APC could never be the best option, since that party is not however parading an Oro son as its flag bearer in the governorship position, emphasizing also that “a Deputy Governor is not an active elective position, but only a spare tyre in government”. On the perennial onslaught of sea pirates who constantly wreck havoc on fishermen and river crafts commuters in Oron territorial waterways, the title holder passionately appealed to the naval authorities and the marine police to re-enforce their river patrols of the area with more personnel, and equipment like sophisticated gun boats and armed troops.

Elder Fregene Esin who maintained that he has only retired as a Senior Customs Officer but not tired, expressed his readiness to offer his experiences in the Para-Military services to both his people, the government , PDP and multi-national oil organizations. As a Senior Customs Officer who held series of sensitive positions in the service, the Otu-Okpono 1 of Eyoabasi re-affirmed his belief in the ability of the ruling PDP to re-invigorate its structures in Oron as a matter effective and sustainable consolidation, even as he stressed that rewarding sensitization of the electorate would strengthen the voters’ commitments to the ultimate success of the party in Oron.

Commenting on the caliber of candidates paraded by PDP in the next months’ polls, Elder Fregene Esin stated that right from President Goodluck Jonathan to Mr Udom Emmanuel, Rt Hon. Chief Nelson Effiong, (who is also an indigene of Eyoabasi bloc like him) Elder Nse Ekpenyong and Hon Efiong Okon Bassey (Attih) were men of proven and tested integrity whose track records, pedigree and antecedence speaks volumes of success stories ahead of their inauguration, and urged the electorates to vote massively for them.
