Fire has wrecked a leading electronics shop Sechez Electronic Plaza worth billions of Naira at Hospital Road in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
Our Correspondent who visited the scene reports that the fire believed to have caused by electrical faults started at about 4a.m on Friday at 2/4 Hospital Road in Eket.
The fire destroyed electronics and other home appliances which include generators, televisions, washing machines, fridges, home theatres, gas cylinders, electrical machines, freezers, and electrical fans.
An eye witness, Mr Ebube Iwu, a businessman in Eket told our reporter that the outbreak was caused by electrical faults.
“When Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC), brought light, electricity sparks through high tension pole that is within the shop and the road.
“That particular time the incident happened there was no light and the people where using generators and immediately PHEDC brought electricity around the four in the morning, the whole building gut fire,’’ he said.
Our Correspondent reports that the electronics shop is located under high tension pole in the area, saying that the incident caused traffic jam in the area.
Iwu said that he was coming back from an outing when the incident started and he immediately rushed and call the fire service that came to battle the fiery fire.
He said that nothing was rescued from the shop as the fire raced the entire shop to ashes, adding that no life was lost in the inferno.
“He lost everything, nothing was pick out of the shop and he is the number one electronic plaza in Eket,’’ Iwu said.
Meanwhile two children were alleged to have been burnt to death in another fire incident at Marina Street in Eket.
Reacting to the development, Mr Ebereobong Isong, divisional fire officer, Eket Divisional Station confirmed the incident, saying that the station was yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
