Relief for Ikot Emien and Nwut Usiong community as transformer project nears completion

The people of Ikot Emien and Nwut Usiong Itam are beginning to breathe a sigh of relief as the ongoing transformer project nears its completion. The two communities, for about seven months now, have been living in abject darkness as the only transformer which powered both communities broke down due to excess load of appliances.

Speaking with one of the contractors of the new transformer project, Comrade Nsisong, he confirmed that two transformers were being released by the government to both communities via one of the influential persons in the community who pleaded for strict anonymity. He also confirmed that before the end of the year, both communities will witness stability in electricity supply.

THE INK newspaper, in a chat with members of the community observed that PMS (Petrol) became a major commodity used for electricity generation through their generators.

“It is very pathetic that I spend one thousand naira daily in order to keep my fridge cold for my products to be sold because my generator consumes 10litres of fuel per day” lamented Miss Chinyere, a business woman who also pleaded with the contractors to hasten up in the project to ease her spending.

Both communities had similar challenges when the government intervened in the repair of their once-upon-a-time dilapidated road.  Some of the community’s youths expressed confidence that the same way government responded to their cry for a good road, the electricity challenge will be a thing of the past. “I am very confident we will enjoy stable electricity before the end of the year the same way we now have a good road “Mr. Moses Job told our reporter.

The two transformers have been strategically placed and wiring had long started and hopefully the final stages will soon commence.
