The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria has continued to prove many of their critics wrong at the ongoing FIFA U-17 championship. The young Nigerians who are gunning for their record fourth title booked their berth in the semi- final competition by humbling Uruguay 2 – 0.
The team which is getting better after each game played one of their toughest games so far in the competition against the much more physical South Americans but was able to carry the day.
The Eaglet will today play Sweden in one of the Semi final games in Dubai. The last time the two teams met in the competition was in the group stage when they cancelled out each other in a thrilling 3-3 draw. The Eaglet had to come from behind to twice in that match.
The team must now review their last match with the Swedish U-17 side to actually determine the flaws in that game. As noted in the quarter final match against Uruguay, the young lads were able to control possession for a reason amount of time during the match. The same must be sustained in the semi final match.
Coach Manu Garba must come out techniques that will suppress the up ball tricks of the Scandinavian debutants which they used during our last meeting. Today’s Game will go a long way in judging the performance of the team so far.
Today’s match will surely be watched by large number of soccer loving Nigerians and the Eaglets cannot afford to let the fans down. Government and well meaning Nigerians must do everything possible to ensure that the teams wins their fourth title in United Arab Emirates by giving them the much needed support.
