The people of Eket Federal Constituency under the aegis of Afigh Iwaad Ekid says they will ensure that they produce the next Governor of Akwa Ibom state stressing that Oron and Ikot Abasi federal constituencies had earlier produced Deputy Governors for the state since 1993 till date.
In a communiqué signed by leaders and stakeholders of the federal constituency, Afigh Iwaad Ekid maintained that it is an undisputable fact that AFIGH IWAAD EKID has in no small measure contributed to the development of the State and Nigeria as a nation. It is on record that, the interventional role played by the Organization during the Onshore/Offshore Dichotomy impasse in 2002/2003, where the group’s delegation prevailed on the presidency is a classical signage of Afigh’s unquantifiable contributions to nation building.
Afigh Iwaad Ekid also in recent times demonstrated a high sense of commitment and responsibility in 2007/2011 general elections that ushered in the present uncommon transformer, His Excellency, Godswill Obot Akpabio’s administration. A memo can for now not capture in totality the overall contributions of the organization since inception over a decade ago.
The Afigh resolved amongst others that “it will be traditionally unethical if we fail to appreciate and thank His Excellency, Chief Godswill Akpabio (CON), the Governor of Akwa Ibom State for his thoughtfulness in towing the path of equity, justice and peace, vis-avis the 2015 gubernatorial elections. Afigh Iwaad Ekid will always stand by His Excellency and other ethnic communities which we consider are the unifying forces of Akwa Ibom State”.
It stated also that, it is the resolution of the Leaders of Afigh Iwaad Ekid, both past/present Stakeholders, that in line with the principle of rotational distribution of political positions in the State, it will be justifiable if the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State comes from Eket Federal Constituency of the Eket Senatorial District because equity demands so.
The group going down memory lane observed that for the record and reason of fairness, Oron Federal Constituency had an elected Deputy Governor of the State in the person of His Excellency, Amb. (Chief)Etim Okpoyo; moreso, it is the turn of Oron Federal Constituency to produce the next Senator for Eket Senatorial District. Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency has produced elected Deputy Governors in the persons of His Excellency, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu, His Excellency, Obong Nsima Ekere and presently, Her Honour, Lady (Barr.) Valerie Ebe. Eket Federal Constituency, the goose that lays the golden egg that boosts the State/nation’s economy is yet to occupy its rightful place in the political setting of equity since the creation of the Akwa Ibom State.
The group also called on other ethnic groups to desist from heating the polity in deceitful and other retrogressive postulations that Akwa Ibom State is too homogeneous to be divided just because the distribution of Guber slot has come to play.
Eket Federal Constituency is not only endowed with enormous natural resources but is also a rich bank of human resources capable of producing for the State, a Governor that will revolutionize the state from the glittering position brought about by the uncommon transformation drive of Governor Godswill Akpabio.
The meeting also commended Governor Akpabio for recently flagging-off the Construction/Dualization of Eket-Etinan Road as well as Eket-Ibeno Road; a very significant gesture as those serve as the gate ways to the oil producing communities of Akwa Ibom State. They also expressed appreciation to Governor Akpabio for appointing Sons and Daughters of Eket Federal Constituency into his government in different capacities. The Governor has shown that he is indeed, detribalized, peace-loving and holds the interest of his people deeply in his heart.
The Afigh Iwaad Ekid and other political stakeholders of Eket Federal Constituency said they will continue to support the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan and called on Nigerians to give him the needed support for 2015.
