A member of the United  States Congress, Sheila Jackson Lee, has felicitated with government and good people of Akwa Ibom on the successful celebration of the State’s 26th anniversary, which took place on the 23rd September, 2013.

Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Aniekan Umanah, who made this known in Uyo, said Sheila Lee’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement, she personally signed from Washington DC and sent to Governor Akpabio.

According to him, the US lawmaker said “the creation of Akwa Ibom State marked the climax of a long and sustained struggle for a separate State, by the people of former Cross River State.”

Mr. Umanah quoted Lee as saying “by all accounts and considerations, the State’s creation has been a dream come true and the yearnings of the people fulfilled,” stressing that “since then, they have risen to the challenges imposed upon their new political identity, embarking vigorously on capital projects to ensure a prosperous State and a Land of Promise, which will serve as a model in Nigeria.”

“Once again, I congratulate His Excellency Obong Godswill Obot Akpabio, his Deputy, Her Honour, Noble Lady Valerie Ebe, and the entire cabinet on the occasion of the 26th year of the State’s creation. Your contributions and efforts towards the sustainable development of Akwa Ibom is commendable. I wish you more years of fruitful governance and continued prosperity of Akwa Ibom.” The statement reads.

It could be recalled that the highly influential US Congress Women and member of the Congressional Black Caucus, in August 2011 presented Congressional Certificates of Recognition to honour Governor Godswill Akpabio and wife, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio in Houston Texas.
