Governor’s Cup: FA releases rules and regulations


… Matches to be played in 8 centers


Ahead of the 2013 Akwa  Ibom State Governor’s cup, A.K.A. “Akwa Ibom Unity Cup” competition coming up on November 17th, 2013, the state Football Association (FA) has released rules and regulations governing the tournament.

According to the state FA, the competition is mandatory to all the Local Government Areas in the state, upon registration and shall be competed for annually and accordingly. Failure to participate attracts a fine of N500, 000.00 (five hundred thousand naira) and any other action as will be determined by the state Football Association.

Registered players for the competition must be indigenes of the local government area by paternal birth and the teams playing in the competition shall submit the registration licenses before the commencement of any match.

In a release made available to our sports desk, any L.G.A. team found to have fielded non-indigenes shall be penalized during preliminaries and the team shall lose 3 goals and 3 points to its opponent. Also, such a team will be banned for two seasons and the said player shall be prosecuted.

Briefing Journalists last week during the draws of the competition, the FA state chairman, Chief Effiong Johnson said that the registration for the competition shall close after the opening match. He maintained that the essence of the tournament is to discover talented players in the state, adding that some local government area have refused to encourage the competition by refusing to participate in the tournament.

Meanwhile teams and their different centres are Nsit Ibom, Uruan Okobo, Ibiono Ibom, Udung Uko, Essien Edim, Ikot Abasi, Esit Eket, Uyo, Ukanafun, Mbo, Abak, Uruk Anam, Ini, Onna, Uruani Obot Akara, Eastern Obolo, Urefong Oruko, Mkpat Enin, Ikot Abasi, Mbo, Itu, Ibesikpo, Nsit Ibom, Oron, Ikono, Eket, Ibeno, Obot Akara, Oron, Ika, Etim Ekpo, Etinan and Abak Centre: Nsit Ibom, Ikot Ekpene, Nsit Atai.

Those who spoke at the draw event were: Hon. Aniekan Akpan, Hon. Idongesit Ntekpere and Coach Aniedi Dickson.
