In a brief profile released by the institution, the Academy which will be 40 years by 2017, was established as a Nautical College and upgraded to Academy by promulgation of Decree No. 16 of 1988 now an Act of the National Assembly, M3 LFN.

According to the institution’s profile, the Academy has delivered on its mandate of providing the Maritime Industry, Merchant Navy and Allied Industry with qualitative training that accords with up-to-date technology, meets national and international standards as well as satisfies the end-users expectations.
