The Member Representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/ Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Sam Ikon has hailed Governor Udom Emmanuel for appointing his former colleague, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Ekong Sampson as the Special Adviser, Bureau of Political/ Legislative Affairs and Water Resources.
Speaking at a recent event, the former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly said Governor Emmanuel has made a good choice by appointing Barr. Sampson as his political adviser, describing the appointee as the “compendium of the 5th Assembly”.
The federal legilsator poured encomiums on Barr. Sampson because of his 8 years experience as a lawmaker, describing him as a politician who has a good grasp and understanding of the Akwa Ibom political terrain. He further described Ekong as a forcused and intelligent team player with a nack for hardwork and results.
In his own part, the member Representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, thanked the Governor for re-appointing Sampson into the state executive council.
“We are particularly grateful to you for finding Barr. Ekong Sampson fit to be part of your team of competent and thoroughbred professionals, that will assist in interpreting your laudable visions and help take Akwa Ibom State to an enviable height.
“Sir, we have confidence in Barr. Ekong Sampson’s ability to deliver positively in his new office. We therefore wish to use this medium to appreciate you for the honour done to us, and once again, commend you for your massive achievements in Mkpat Enin and pledge our total support to your purpose-driven government. Your Excellency, once again, we say thank you and promise to support you now and always”, Hon. Ndem said in his thank you message to the governor.
Speaking at the reception held in honour of Barr. Ekong Sampson after his swearing-in, the Paramount Ruler of Mkpat Enin, His Royal Highness Akpan Akpan Ekpene also eulogized the new Special Adviser as someone who has tremendous respect for and has been a great supporter of the traditional institution, saying royal fathers hold Ekong in very high esteem.
Youths of the area were not left out in the celebration as all major youth groups in Mkpat Enin turned up for the reception.
Speaking at the event, the leader of Mkpat Enin Youth Council, Ubong Ememe said Ekong is indeed the junction and nerve of Mkpat Enin politics, describing him as the politician with the most formidable political structure in the area.
Also lending his voice, Friday Udoayara described Ekong as the defacto political leader of Mkpat Enin and the political master strategist who will give Udom lots of useful political advise and strategy.
A former State officer of the PDP, Atako Ukporo said that as a hardworking man, Ekong will excel in his new office.
Other PDP chieftains who spoke of Ekong in glowing terms were Sir Obot Etukafia, a former Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Ekere Afia, a former House of Assembly Member, Barr. Uwem Ekanem, Chellie Okoko, and a former Council Chairman and the erstwhile lawmaker, Dr. Charles Mbong.
Ekere Afia said that having worked with Ekong in the House of Assembly as colleagues, he has no doubts that he will succeed in his new post, enhancing a robust working relationship between the executive and the legislature.
Speaking with our reporter on phone, the pioneer Council Chairman of Ibiono Ibom, Marcus Okuku said considering his 15 years in active politics after serving as Local Government Chairman and House of Assembly member for 2 terms respectively, Ekong Sampson is definitely a square peg in a square hole.
Okuku who himself was a State Youth Leader of PDP for 6 years said that Ekong will play a key and pivotal role in the 2019 election, especially with the governor likely seeking second term.
