Ministry of Investment, Commerce and Industry gets new commissioner * We will work together to achieve the goals of the ministry- Commissioner

Upon the swearing- in of the newly constituted Executive Council by the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Investment, Commerce and Industry, has resumed duty admist high hopes and expectations.

Addressing the management staff of the ministry during a familiarization chat, the Honourable Commissioner, Prof. Eno Ikpe stressed that the ministry has become a cardinal point in the industrialization drive of the state government. In Her words, “the Governor has said many times that the development of the state is woven around his industrialization drive policies”.


Thus to Prof. Ikpe, the Governor’s word becomes her driving force. She reiterated that not minding the perceived challenges enumerated, her coming to the ministry implies that the ministry is geared at charting a new course to overcome the obvious challenges toward attaining its ministerial responsibilities.  

She said, “I have heard all the problems…these are mere challenges which we will work together to overcome. His Excellency does not want us to give excuses. We are set to find ways to achieve the goals of this ministry and that’s why I am here. I cannot go back to the Governor to tell him we can’t do it”. 

The Commissioner expressed her confidence that even in the face of the current economic recession, Akwa Ibom State and her citizenry should not give up. She announced that the biblical injunction that when there is a casting down, God’s children are not to be casted down, rather, will be lifted up is still effective and working.

Hence, She hampered on the need for the Seven directorates of the ministry to come together, support her as they had supported previous commissioners which saw them successful,  because she is committed to projecting the Ministry of Investment, Commerce and Industry as the centre of development in Akwa Ibom State.

Earlier, in her welcome speech, the Permanent Secretary, Deaconess Affiong Okpo, briefed the commissioner of the statutory responsibilities of the ministry which includes; improving the standard of living of the people, promoting industrialization and trade, providing enabling environment for the private sector to thrive, promoting the growth of the domestic economy for self-reliance and exports. She wished the commissioner, a result-oriented days in the ministry.

Also speaking, the Director of Administration, Mrs. Tiuba Nduonofit, in a vote of thanks appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for sending a dynamic scholar to the ministry. She thanked the commissioner for the motivating the ministry on her first day in office. She+ reassured the commissioner that the staff is committed to working with her towards realizing her target of projecting the ministry of Investment, Commerce and Industry as a foot-soldier in the industrialization drive of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

In attendance were Mr. Michael Ibanga, Director, Department of Industry, Mr. Okon Esuh, Director of Investment Department, Mr. Nsidibe Ettang, Director, Department of Commerce, Mr. Inieke Umanah, Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Ndanyongmong Ekpo, Director of Produce Department and Mr. Aniekan Offong, Head of Accounts.
