Nkwot people celebrates Gov. Emmanuel

The people of Nkwot Ward 6 in  Ikono Local Government Area  have passed a vote of confidence on the State Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel. Speaking on behalf of the chiefs, community leaders and natives of the area during the “Sit Out with Gov Udom Emmanuel”, an initiative of the Ikono Council Chairman, Mr. Itoro Columba, the Chairman, Nkwot Council of Chiefs, Eteidung Godwin Ubah extolled the virtues of the State Chief Executive and thereafter moved a motion that “whereas Governor Udom Emmanuel has creditably discharged the onerous responsibilities of his office, the people of Nkwot Ward 6 have passed a vote of absolute confidence on him”

The Eteidung revealed that the people of the area were in love with the Governor and his lofty policies, most especially the Dakkada philosophy of his administration. “We have keyed into the Dakkada philosophy of the Governor by rising up to build a market for our community. The market is even named Urua Dakkada, the monarch told the overwhelming crowd of Nkwot people who turned out for the Sit-Out. He also used the event to allocate a long stretch of land in the market to the council boss to construct some market stalls for himself and the traders in that axis.


Eteidung Ubah further spoke on the plethora of challenges confronting the community principal among them being the absence of a motorable access road to the area and exuded confidence that the super performing State Governor will soon visit them with a 21st century compliant nylon tarred road.
Speaking at the event, the initiator of the Ward Sit-Out on Gov Udom Emmanuel and the Chairman, Ikono Local Government Caretaker Committee, Mr. Itoro Columba thanked the natives for the warm reception accorded him. He said, “Today shall forever remain indelible in my mind. 

I am overwhelmed and exceedingly thrilled with the sea of heads that are here to receive me.” The Chairman listed the deplorable condition or total absence of a road network in the area and promised to leverage on his wide network of contacts to attract government attention to the road. “I have seen and heard your challenges, I promise that I shall appeal the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-eyen to inspect the deplorable nature of the roads,” the number one son of Ntippe Ibibio told his kith and kin. He also promised that as a remedial measure, the council would soon commence the grading of the road and other such roads in the local government area.

The council boss also used the Sit-Out to drum up support for the State Governor. He stated that while other states of the federation were grappling with issues like non-payment of salaries, the State Governor had not only paid up-to-date salaries to workers on government employ, he was also creating employment and building critical road infrastructure across the state. 

He listed the 6km Mbiafun Nkwongo-Nung Ukim road as a clear testimony of the Governor’s passion for service and love for Ntippe Ibibio and exuded confidence that the construction of a nylon tarred roads in Nkwot Clan was only a heartbeat away. The media entrepreneur turned politician then moved an overwhelmingly supported motion requesting the State Governor to remain in office till 2023.

On their allocation of a long stretch of land to him at the Urua Dakkada, the Council boss expressed his delight at the gift and promised to build his market sheds there before the expiration of his tenure. He called on the people to remain steadfast with him, the State Governor and the Peoples Democratic Party as more democratic deliverables await them.

Others who spoke at the Sit-Out were the Secretary of Council, Barr Ekemini Uba, the Supervisor for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon Kenny Inyang Ekah, the Eteidungs and Chiefs of some of the 24 villages that make up Nkwot group of villages, among others. They heaped copious praises on the action soaked Governor and their super performing Council Boss and enjoined the natives to reciprocate their gesture by supporting them to do more.

In a similar vein, the Ikono Council boss also visited the ward office of the PDP in the area where he was received by the ward Chairman and executives of the PDP in Nkwot ward 6. Addressing the party faithful, the PDP card carrying Council Chairman urged them to remain loyal to their party leaders and the state party leader, Gov Udom Emmanuel. He reminded them of the laid down procedure of former State Chief Executives spending two terms in office and solicited their support to ensure the Governor enjoys the same. 

The council boss further enjoined the party officers to remain steadfast and work hard to ensure the party bounces back at the centre in 2019.

Other Chieftains of the party in Nkwot ward 6 also addressed the ward officers and called on their total support and loyalty to the State Governor and the hierarchy of the party at various levels.
