Principal General exhorts PTA to synergize school authorities …as Comprehensive Sec. School, Okobo gets new PTA

A principal-general and ace educational administrator, has tasked parents teachers association and students of his school to rise to the faith of greatness in order to ensure total commitment and ultimate success in over- all school administration as well as extra-curricular activities.

Pastor Efiong E. Okwong the principal-general of Comprehensive Secondary School, Okobo who made the advocacy during the swearing-in ceremony of Parents Teacher Association executive last weekend posited that with commendable synergy between school management, parents, teachers and students, avoidable, conflicts and misunderstandings could be either eradicated or reduced to the barest minimum.

According to Pst. Okwong who is also the Regional Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church in Oron zone, mutual trust and divine co-operation can be the only needed tonic to change chaotic and rowdy situations usually precipitated by lack of patience, fear of God, commitment to assigned or dedicated responsibilities in educational institutions.


Pastor Okwong who acknowledged the indispensible roles of Parents Teacher Associations could play in complimenting the statutory roles of schools managements also reasoned that parents who oversee the conducts of their children and wards at home with longer hours of the day than the usual school period, emphasized the need for parents and guardians to get squarely involved in their behavioural patterns.

To the larger society, particularly, churches, voluntary organizations, village councils, youth groups and allied association and clubs, the renown educationist and frontline pentecostalist reasoned that “we all have unique and exemplary roles to play in mouldng the characters of our children in order to prepare for tomorrow’s leadership”.

Reeling out his score-card since his assumption of duties in Comprehensive Secondary School, Okobo, the Principal General also intimated the PTA Executives of the plans ahead to include set goals for the projects Committee of the institution, Computer laboratory expansion work, sustaining the engagement of part-time teachers and security staff, provision of day wear to the students, dissolution and inauguration of new PTA, send forth for members of the NYSC, maintaining and servicing of the generating set for the Computer Laboratory, commissioning of the computer laboratory by the group head, Chief of Ekeya Group of Villages, Chief Michael Anyin among others.

Pst. Okwong then commended the cooperation and excellent working atmosphere and mutual relationship existing between the school and the royal fathers of the host community; and enjoined them to check the incessant and obnoxious encroachment on the school land arbitrarily.

Responding on behalf of the PTA Exco, the Chairman, Chief Bassey O. Ikpade pledged the readiness of members of his cabinet to join hands with school management to achieve the desired goal of the institution even as he score the Principal-General, Pastor Okwong and his staff high in performance so far.
Chief Ikpade who was the vice and at times acting Chairman of the PTA warned people leaving around the school premises against encroaching or trespassing on the school’s land. Other members of the new executive include Catechist Emmanuel Ikoedem – Vice Chairman, Pst. Efiong E. Okwong or his assigned representative – Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Asukwo Andem, Treasurer, Comrade Essang Peter – PRO, Mr. Etim Uweh Edet – Financial Secretary, among the royal fathers who watched the well attended meeting included the group head of Okopedi, Chief Antigha, Village Head of Amamong, Chief Raymond Esuk, Chief Francis Ekpenyong, Chief Bassey Antai, and a Director of SSEB, Mrs. Eno Fabian Okon, while a minute silence was observed in memory of the immediate past Treasurer of the PTA, Hon. Prince Ene.

In a related development, the PTA similarly congratulated the Principal-General, his deputies, the staff, games master and students of the school for hosting and staging what they referred to as “a very successful Inter-House Sports.
