Presbyterian Church Children visit AKEES’ Toothpick, Pencil Factory

To acquaint themselves of the production processes of Toothpick and Pencil, the Children Department of Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Willington Bassey Way, Uyo, on Friday, visited the Akwa Ibom Enterprise and Employment Scheme (AKEES) Pencil and Toothpick Factory located at Kilometer 2, Uyo-Etinan Road, Ekom Iman, Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking on behalf of the Children, the Coordinator of the Children Department, Mrs Idorenyin James, said they were amazed at the giant strides of the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration, maintaining the Factory is a laudable project that will further project the State in good light.

Mrs James who confirmed the originality of the Factory’s products, noted she had earlier doubted the authenticity of the Project but later embarked on an eyewitness assessment to clear her doubts and later, thought it wise to escort the Children to the Factory.

“We thought it wise to expose our Children to what Governor Udom Emmanuel has brought to our State, it is a laudable project that will further project the Akwa Ibom State.

“These Children are so excited, the parents are so enthusiastic as you can see”, she added.

On criticisms about the existence of the Factory, she frowned at the widespread rumours that the Factory does not exist, and said the people doubting its existence should rather visit the Factory than engage in falsehood.

“The people who are criticising the Project have not seen it, it is when you come in contact with things that you won’t sit back and criticise negatively.
“I tell people that this is not a dream but a reality, we have seen it and we have bought the Pencil and Toothpick, I can say the pencils are better than the foreign ones”, Mrs James noted.

Mrs James who urged people of the State to always appreciate and support the present administration, thanked the management of the Company for approving the excursion and stressed the Presbyterian Church will continually support Governor Udom Emmanuel in prayers.

Interacting with newsmen after the excursion, Little Miss Etieka Aniekan said she had learnt about the production processes of Toothpick and Pencil and thanked the Governor for his industralisation agenda.

In his reaction, a visibly elated Master Ubongabasi Raymond on his part, thanked their Coordinator for the visit and the Factory’s management for letting them in.

Earlier, the Manager of the Factory, Mr Moses Bassey had conducted the Children round the Factory and urged them to inculcate the fear of God and be studious, so they would turn great future leaders.
