The youths of Ika Local Government Area have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel and the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio as well as reiterated their readiness to throw their weight behind them for a second term come 2019.
Their resolution was reached at a meeting in Ika Local Government Area on Wednesday following a motion moved by the member representing Ika/Etim Ekpo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Tobby and was seconded by the Hon. Godswill Udom who is the Chairman, Youth Council of Nigeria, Ika Chapter.
Aside from the motion, the convener of the meeting, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Tobby said the essence of the meeting was to gather the youths together, interact with them as well as remind them that their support for the PDP led government in the State would soon be rewarded. He said that Governor Udom Emmanuel will soon come out with empowerment programmes for the youths of Ika and that the empowerment will touch all the political units and wards in the area.
The lawmaker urged the youths to go out and register in the ongoing INEC registration in other for the to be able to vote in the forthcoming general elections, saying that the youths can only negotiate their interests with any politician in the forthcoming election if only they had registered and have their voter’s card.
According to the lawmaker, “Come 2019, Ika youths should throw their weight behind Governor Udom Emmanuel and Senator Godswill Akpabio for their second term bid. Both of them are going back and other political positions shall be discussed at the appropriate time.”
Tobby commended the people for turning out massively for the interactive meeting, noting that it was an indication of their love for Governor Udom Emmanuel, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the PDP. He used the opportunity to appeal to those in the opposition to come and join hands with the PDP lead government to move the area forward in particular and the State in general even as he sued for peace and unity in the area.
The lawmaker used the opportunity to condemned in strong terms the recent interruption and attacks of APC members while having a meeting at the Headquarters of Ika, Urua Inyang few days ago, describing it as unfortunate even as he urged the youths to rise up and address the security challenges facing the area. He appealed to the youths not to in any way fight with their bothers in opposition parties, adding that there is no election that is worth fighting for, and described it as a game of numbers.
Also speaking, the Ika PDP chapter chairman, Hon. Iboro Nelson commended the youths of the area for their support and steadfastness with the PDP government. He thanked the House of Assembly member, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Tobby for convening the meeting and above all, for his effective representation within in office and assured the youths that with Udom Emmanuel as the governor, the youths of the area will benefit a lot.
He however called on the youths to remain calm and continue to support the government of Udom Emmanuel as well as that of the lawmaker, Hon. Gabriel Tobby, adding that they will not regret voting for PDP in the last general elections.
Hon. Monday Alexander, a political stakeholder, in his remarks thanked the lawmaker for convening the meeting, saying the meeting will go a long way to unite the youths and also give them hope of good things to come in the nearest future. While the Chairman, Youth Caucus in the area, Hon. Uduakobong Okereke in his speech commended the lawmaker for his effecting representation in the AKHA . He thanked the Assemblyman for carrying the interest of Ika youths at heart even as he used the meeting to urged the youths to go back to their respective units and wards and ensure they mobilize for PDP come next elections.
Some of the stakeholders who graced the meeting were: former Transition Committee Chairman of the area, Atuekong Inyang, Hon. Linus Kevin, Hon. Victoria Ime Thomas, former Secretary, Mr. Samuel Noah, Hon. Emmanuel Udoka, Hon. Idong Afang, Mr. Columbus Solomon, among others.
