Fallen Trees: Assemblyman moves to safeguard lives

The member representing Etinan state constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Hon. (Barr) Aniefiok Dennis today during plenary made a case for the safety of residence and road users in Uyo metropolis and other urban centers within the state especially during this period of heavy rainfall/windstorm.

This was brought pursuant to order 3 Rule 1 of the standing orders of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (2011)

The Etinan Lawmaker who moved a motion (On notice) titled “THREAT TO LIVES AND PROPERTIES BY TREES PLANTED ALONG MAJOR STREETS IN UYO AND OTHER URBAN CENTRES” seconded by the Member representing Oron/Udung Uko Rt. Hon. Effiong Bassey

In Hon. (Barr) Dennis submission, he observed that most of these trees have grown wild and now constitute palpable threat to both vehicular and human traffic on our roads. He recollected reported cases of recent where these trees fall off during severe windstorm and rainfall with attendant fatal casualties along major streets of Uyo.

The Etinan Assemblyman implored for relevant government agencies to embark on systematic replacement of the identified old trees with new ones that would make our urban streets safe and livable and loveable.
