Ikot Obio Mkpong community sends SOS to Gov Udom Emmanuel …as youths pour encomiums on Governor’s aide

Youths of Ikot Obio Mkpong Ikono community in Uyo Local Government Area, Ward 8 have pleaded with the state Governor Deacon Udom Emmanuel to urgently come to the aid of their community which has been without electricity since inception.

The youths said they cannot understand how a community in the state capital will be without electricity in this 21st century.

The youths expressed their discontentment when the special Assistant to the governor on Project Monitoring an indigene of the community, Hon Uwem Asuquo hosted youths of his community to an informal hangout organized by the governor’s aide periodically to feel the problem of his people.

 Speaking during the relaxed meeting the Youth President of the Area Hon. Imo Joshua commended the governor’s aide for always coming around to sit with his people from time to time. He complained that the PDP government in the state has regularly neglected the community for no just cause. “We thank for always coming around the village to be with us, apart from you and the Primary school block which was recently constructed by the government we don’t have any government presence here.
As you know we have never seen electricity since you and I were born into this community, no road but during elections we all support the PDP but after the elections we are not remembered again”.

He added that the past government had provided the community with poles and high tension wires while the NDDC through Hon Uwem Asuquo had provided the community with a transformer which is still in good condition. Mr. Joshua beseeched the Transition Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area and the governor to please come and assist them with the electricity and good road network.

 Also speaking, the former village Council Chairman of Ikot Obio Mkpong Mr. Inyang Inyang thanked the governor’s aide for the initiative of always coming to be with his people on a regular basis. He urged the governor’s aide to converse the cries and worries of his people to his boss the Governor and also extend their good wishes to him.

 On his part, a youth of the community, Victor Effanga pleaded with the governor and other well-meaning citizens of the state to empower youths of the community.

 He said, “Since all of us could not have the opportunity of acquiring formal education, I want to plead with our governor and other citizens of the state to provide us with employment. We have skills that we have learnt but we don’t have the platforms to showcase or practice what we learnt”.

While responding to the numerous complaints listed by his people, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring thanked his people for coming out to hang out with him, he commended them for their continuous support to the present administration of Deacon Udom Emmanuel who he described as a prudent manager, God fearing and a focused leader.

He informed his people that the present administration has been operating on miniature resources but due to the governor’s competent, he has been able to impact positively on the entire state in just two years.

Responding to the problem of unavailability of electricity in his community and good road network, Hon Asuquo said that he will make sure that he takes the problem to appropriate quarters so that the village can also enjoy the impact of excellent governance as enjoyed by other parts of the state in the last two years.

The Governor’s aide assured his people that before the next elections that the low tension wires required to provide the community with electricity will be installed across the community. He enjoined his people to support Deacon Udom Emmanuel beyond 2019 so that he can continue his superlative performance.

“I can assure you that we will have electricity very soon in this community, I will take the matter upon myself, and I will do my best to ensure this particular problem is put to bed in the shortest possible time. Also I want to inform us that the second term ambition of Deacon Udom Emmanuel is nonnegotiable, he will complete his 8 years because he has delivered on his campaign promises”.

The governor’s aide also used the occasion to commend Governor Deacon Udom Emmanuel for the appointment of Hon Enobong Uwah as the Chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA). He described Hon Uwah as a square peg in a Square hole, saying that the leadership persona and experience of the former Commissioner will go a long way in changing the narrative of the body.

Hon Uwem Asuquo averred that the appointment of Hon Uwah will further attract good things to entire people of Uyo Local Government.
