Impressed by the fulfillment of his campaign promises, students under the umbrella of National Association of Oron, Udung/Uko Students have rise in unison to pass a vote of confidence on the member representing the area in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Effiong Bassey, just as they vow to cue behind him even beyond 2019.
This was made known last Saturday 3rd of June 2017 at the constituency office of the lawmaker, in Oron L.G.A.
Sequel to his developmental strides which has cut across all facets, including educational empowerment Comrade John Etim, President National Association of Udung/Uko Students worldwide moved the motion and was duly seconded by Comrade Friday Edemumo President National Association of Oron Students worldwide.
The event also witnessed presentation of educational grants to final year students of the constituency studying in different programmes in various higher institutions across Nigeria.
Presenting some of his score cards, Hon. Effiong Bassey said within his short stay in office he has represented his people effectively in the House of Assembly, covering lawmaking, oversight and representation.
In the area of lawmaking, the Oron, Udung Uko representative pointed out that current thing before the House is a bill to establish Akwa Ibom State constituency.
Project development fund for the purpose of even development of all constituencies in AKS and for other connected purpose, sponsored by him.
He said apart from this, he has co-sponsored about five (5) other bills with different motion, some of which have been given prompt attention.
On the area of representation, the Chairman Rural Development and Public Utility Committee revealed that matter bothering his people has never been swept under the carpet, as currently various projects initiated by him are on advance stage waiting for inauguration by the inter-ministerial and direct labour committee.
On oversight, Hon. Bassey explained further that his then committee has intervened on different oversight programmes, especially while serving as the Chairman House Committee on boundary and Conflict Resolution.
He said all this would not have been achieve without the people’s support, consequently, enjoined them not to relent in their prayers but to pray fervently especially for the fast recovery of President Buhari and for more wisdom to government Udom Emmanuel.
The assembly man who described students and youths as a veritable tools in the development of any society, said he placed them high in his priorities that is why he decided to carry them along in his scheme of things, promising to expanded the scope during his constituency empowerment, adding that it is as a result of his experience while a student some years back.
The lawmaker also used the opportunity to thanked the students for their massive support given to him during his first and especially second elections that caused his rival to step down on the eve of election, sued to reciprocate the kind gesture.
Also thanking the lawmaker for redeeming his plagued was Hon. Paul Eye. He said the House member has been on educational friendly representative ever since he started representing his people, noting that it was not the first time that Hon. Bassey has empower his constituents but started with the post graduate students.
He charged them to make good use of the opportunity and study had to be good leaders of tomorrows.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Comrade Esther Etim a Computer Engineering student in the University of Uyo thanked the House member for his kind gesture, promising to utilize the fund positively as he pray for God’s blessing upon him.
