The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East in the 8th Senate, Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) has commended the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for the steps he has taken so far aimed at developing and adding value to Akwa Ibom since he assumed office two years ago.
Senator Albert made this known on Monday in a statement made available to the media and signed by his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and publicity, Mr Anny Michaels. He particularly congratulated the Governor on his second anniversary in office and for the visible steps he has taken at driving industrialization in the State which will go a long way to cushion the rate of unemployment in the State.
The statement in part reads ‘’ Senator Albert is impressed with the Governor’s strategic steps at industrializing the State which according to him is very necessary now to boost our economy for good as well as provide employment opportunities to our unemployed youths’’.
Senator Albert who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas pointed out that in the face of the economic recession in the country, the Governor has been able to ensure that workers salaries are promptly paid when some States are owing salaries of varying months and called on the people to continue to support this administration to succeed.
He called on the people to support the Governor for a second term to enable him to sustain the developmental strides he has started.
OBA as he is famously called lauded the Governor for initiating infrastructures across the State despite the lean resources available to the State to add value while urging the people of the State to see the infrastructures as their own, assist ensure security and encourage the contractors at site to serve them better.
Meanwhile the Senator has invited all to the Public Hearing on Gas Flaring (Prohibition and Punishment) Bill sponsored by him as Chair, Senate Committee on Gas which is scheduled to take place at the National Assembly on Wednesday, 31st May, 2017.
The Distinguished Senator has requested host Communities of oil companies in Niger Delta Region and Akwa Ibom State in particular to take advantage of this opportunity to present a written memorandum on the issue of gas flaring as it affects their environment.
….Donates Computers to Uniuyo, drugs to 9 Health Centres
The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East in the 8th Senate and Chair, Senate Committee on Gas, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) on Monday donated 15 brand new desktop computers to the University of Uyo and several cartons of drugs to nine health centres one each from the nine LGAs that make up Akwa Ibom North East.
Presenting the items on behalf of the Distinguished Senator, Mr. Daniel Udoh, Chairman of Senator Albert’s Liaison office in Uyo said this is typical of the Distinguished Senator to make life more meaningful to his people beyond his robust legislative engagements and urged the representatives of the health centres to ensure that the drugs get to his constituents. His words’’ This is typical of the large-heartedness and humane disposition of Senator Albert, l urge you to ensure his constituents benefit from these donations as end users and please do not sell these drugs, they are to be given free of charge to his people’’.
Udoh added that the Senator believes with the donation of the drugs it will go a long way to improve on the health care delivery for his people. He stressed that in no distant future the Senator will expand the scope of empowerment to his people to add to the 130 undergraduates who are enjoying all school expense scholarship in various universities across Nigeria which cost the Senator over N12m annually and the start-up capital he recently gave to 120 youths from the District to the tune of N10m.
The consultant for the supplies, Mr John Jerry said Senator Albert made this possible through the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs as is required by the new policy of the Federal Government on constituency projects. He added that Senator Albert is so passionate about his people hence his ensuring that his constituents benefit from the items directly.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof Enefiok Essien who was represented by the Head of ICT, UNIUYO, Engr Allen said he has had cause to relate with Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert even before this donation and can safely say for sure, that
OBA loves people as such he was not very surprised at his donation of the brand new computers to the University. His words ‘’Honestly, the computers are coming at a time it is most needed by the university to fast track learning in the area of information and communication technology and l urged the students to make judicious use of the computers’’. Prof Essien said the university is very happy by the gesture of the Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert which they know is the pride of Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District.
In the same vein, on behalf of the Primary Health Officers in charge of the health centres, Mrs Grace Uyoe of the Primary Health Care centre, Uyo said she is very pleased with Senator Albert’s gesture which will go a long way to assisting them improve on the health care delivery for the people and prayed God to continue to bless the Senator in his determination to lift and better the lives of his people.
Also commenting on the Senator’s gesture, the Medical Director of Cottage Hospital, Akai Ubium - Dr Udeme Ette said from the list of the drugs donated which are very essential drugs particularly in combating malaria, the people of the area will benefit immensely from the donation and thanked the Senator for the gesture.
A peep into the list of the drugs donated in cartons include: Ibuprofen (Tab) 100ml, Ibuprofen syrup 100ml, NGC – Volgen 500ml, Amoxicillin capsules 500ml. Others are; Amoxiclin (SUSP) 200ML, Coartem (Children) 20/120, Coartem (Adult) 20/120, Coartem (Adult) 20/120,Conart (Adult) 20/120,Paracetamol (Tablet) 500ml, paracetamol (Syrup) 120ml and First Aid boxes.
The benefiting health centres include Primary Health Centre, Uyo Itam, Itu, Health Centre, Ikot Otoinye, Uruan, Primary HealthCare Operational base, Nsit Atai and Primary Health Centre, Oboetim, Nsit Ibom. Others are: Health Centre, Oko Ita, Ibiono Ibom, Cottage Hospital, Akai Ubium, Health Centre, Ikot Obio Inyang, Primary Health Centre, Uyo and Primary Health Care Centre, Nung Udoe, Ibesikpo Asutan.
