Supreme Court shun naked dance BY AKPANDEM

Indeed, it would be over statement to declare that no civilized nation can exist without law and competent court. In any society in which the judiciary fail, for any reason, to measure up to the standard expected, such a society is doomed to revert to the most primitive form of life which the political philosopher Thomas Hobbes described when he pictured a society lacking security, justice and power to regulate behaviour.

If our aspiration for a good and prosperous nation is to come, judiciary should be honest, if not the prevailing condition of the society will be poor and nasty. Supreme Court should focus and build on what is already working. Norman Vincent Peale said, we’ve all heard that we have to learn from our mistakes, but i think it is more important to learn from our successes, because learning only from mistakes you are inclined to learn only errors.

Lie will add to troubles, subtract energy, multiply difficulties and divide effectiveness. Truth exist only lies are created. Never mind whom you praise, but be careful whom you blame, giving the right judgement clears the score and proves you wiser than before, doing the right job is always easier than fabricating an alibis for why you didn’t, hence the Supreme Court should maintain the tradition and dignity of their office, so long as this happy situation remains there is certainly hope for the future in this country. They should seek to maintain self-respect and win a reputation for courage and integrity and not to follow blindly in their official actions and political designs, let the account of stewardship be a matter of record for everyone to see. Then leave it to history and to posterity to judge. Armed with honesty conviction of actions, calmly await the result and believe that truth is daughter of time and that public justice is certain.

Avoid dancing to the tune of Appeal Court that miscarriage the judgement in a suit between Engineer Frank Okon vs Godswill Akpabio. Imitation is limitation, don’t be a copy of something, make your own impression, be a bridge and not a wall. The state of Akwa Ibom people’s mind are not better imagined than described, they attempted possible guesses concerning the delayed, but all merely escalated the turmoil and agitation in peoples mind, that is where i realised the truth in those famous lines in Shakespeare Macbeth: present fears are less than horrible imaginings, the believers are depressed and nervous and are hoping that God should do something to aggravate their worries and burning suspense. The delayed appeared to be the longest time in people’s life.

The dual disclose of the money collected by the Supreme Court to twist the judgement perturbed the people more than ever, they should stop to be wanting in the discharge of their functions and let the people be impressed by their orderliness. Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging of an uncompleted task, take full account of the excellencies which you possess and in gratitude remember how you would hanker after them if you had them not. Gov. Akpabio once said that Supreme Court need supreme money, they should know that a duty dodged is like a debt unpaid; it is only deferred, at all cost the account must settled at last. The book of Proverbs says putting confidence in an unreliable man is like chewing with a sore tooth or trying to run on a broken foot. The Supreme Court should not countenance any impression that justice should be through connection.

The federal advisory judicial committee should not hesitate to remove summarily punished judge or judges guilty of inefficiency, dishonest and disloyal. Since the court in question is an apex court, as such we are interested in its well being, its efficiency and incorruptibility is our particular concern, we therefore demand absolute loyalty, discipline and honesty. Glaring cases of injustice must be totally stamped out, they should cooperate and assure the society of fair play with avowed policy to do all that was possible to enhance their status and dignity.

The court should be firm and just no matter at whatever risk or cost we need at this time judges of courage imbued with love of the nation, they should ignore those who parade themselves round as friends, schoolmates or relations who claim to have the power to influence justice, for such people are enemies of society and should be exposed whenever they are found, it is only in this way you can make Nigeria community of happy and contented people.

Finally, I would end up summing up lessons and pieces of advice to the Supreme Court judges in the word of Senator William Fessenden of Maine during the course of funeral oration which he delivered on the death of his fellow senator, speaking about the weight of public responsibility, he said: when Mr. President, a man becomes a member of this body he cannot even dream of the ordeal to which he cannot fail to be exposed; of how much courage he must posses to resist the temptation which daily beset him; of that sensitive shrinking from undeserved censure which he must learn to control; of the load of injustice he must be content to bear, even from those who should be sneers and sarcasms of ignorance and malice; of all manifold injuries which partisan or private malignity, disappointed of its objectives may shower upon his unprotected head. All this Mr. President, if he would retain his integrity he must learn to bear unmoved, and walk steadily onward in the part of duty, sustained only by the reflection that time may do him justice.
