2014 May Day: What Udom Emmanuel told Akwa Ibom Workers

2014 May Day: What Udom Emmanuel told Akwa Ibom Workers
The secretary to state government, Mr Udom G Emmanuel has assured Akwa Ibom workers that the state government will continue to maintain a peaceful and robust working relationship between government and labour. The state SSG stated this last week at the Uyo Township stadium in his solidarity message to workers in the state at the 2014 edition of May Day celebration. H appreciated workers in the state for their excellence services they have rendered in the state, and charged them to do those things that will continue to promote peace, unity and drive the uncommon transformation currently being witness in the state.

According to him, “Every year may 1st for me is another new year for workers, so today marks the beginning of another year for Nigerian workers and internationally too, but what is peculiar about this year is actually the theme of this may day celebration” peace and unity”. Whenever you see peace there must be unity, and the same priceless that you can attach to peace is the same measure you can attach to labour because labour too is priceless. Brethren I keep saying that if you think the cost of maintaining peace is high, then try the other way round. Investment in labour is not an expend but investment. I want to say here that today, that as we talk about peace,

I charge you all to look at the uncommon transformation drive in Akwa Ibom State, and what should follow the uncommon transformation is a sustainable development. Which is also the theme of today’s message. And I want to urge all workers to please, we must do everything and make sure our conscience, our minds and our deeds moves us towards peace, equity and justices so that we can sustain the uncommon transformation in Akwa Ibom State.

I want to thank you all and use this opportunity to appreciate labour, labour in Akwa Ibom State has been wonderfully working harmoniously with the state government, we have had a very peaceful coexistence between labour and government, so I thank you all. And I also expect that as you begine a new year, we shall actually working in that peace and harmony, and in peace and unity both in Akwa Ibom State and in Nigeria in general, we shall all experience and achieve the sustainable development. I thank you and God bless labour”.
