Prepare for healthy retirement - Info Comm.
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, has called on the leadership of Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, in the State, to educate civil servants on how to properly plan for a happy retirement.

Speaking while receiving executive members of the Council, on Wednesday, in his office, Mr. Umanah, said it was important and beneficial when workers plan on what to do after thirty-five years of active service to their fatherland.

He advised civil servants to always have it in mind that there is life after retirement, hence, they should be adequately prepared and embrace retirement with joy.


The Commissioner also charged workers to get their service records and other necessary documents in place, while in service, in preparation for healthy retirement.
According to him, civil servants have to reform themselves first, before the proper reformation of the civil service can take place.

Mr. Umanah promised to table the pressing needs of workers in the State, as highlighted by the Chairman of the Joint Council, to appropriate authorities for necessary action.
In his address, the Chairman of the State Joint Service Negotiating Council, Comrade Udeme Otong, said the visit was to seek the Commissioner’s assistance in addressing the issues bothering on the
welfare of workers.

He commended the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio for his numerous welfare packages to workers, especially the payment of N21,000 minimum wage, which he noted has further improved their living conditions.
