2015: Udom takes case to Uyo Elders

IN furtherance of his governorship ambition the Secretary to the state Government Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel is set to meet with the leadership and the members Uyo Elders Forum where he is expected to discuss the way forward for 2015 elections and the need for the Elders to close ranks and support him to emerge the Governor of the state after Governor Godswill Akpabio.

THE INK gathered on authoritative grounds that the meeting is at the instance of the SSG and is billed for 2pm at the residence of the Chairman of the forum, Dr. Maurice Ebong along D line in Ewet Housing Estate near Datty Hotel. The meeting is billed for Monday.

It was learnt that following the hard stance of the Elders on Udom and why he should not consider running the 2015 gubernatorial election, the SSG had sought for wise counsel and was accordingly asked to set up a meeting with the Elders where he will be expected to open up on his ambition to them and also inform them on what he intends to do for them as a Governor in order for them to get their support. 

Udom is expected to grace the occasion with some of his aides and perhaps some commissioners of Uyo Senatorial District who are his core supporters. The SSG will be expected amongst other things to brief the elders in a closed door chat on why he is soliciting the support of Dr. Maurice Ebong and his team who have not hidden their displeasure to the Zenith Bank officer’s ambition to succeed the Governor.

Competent sources informed our reporter that the Maurice Ebong’s Uyo Senatorial District Elders Forum is a very viable structure of the governorship ambition of the former SSG Obong Umana Umana and that it remains to be seen the outcome of the said meeting if the meeting will not be called off to please the former SSG. But another source and a member of the forum told THE INK that while the meeting of the SSG does not appear strange to them, they are however not going to kick out the SSG as according to him he is one of our children. Our source maintained that the impending visit of Udom will afford members an opportunity to speak with him and also ask questions on grey areas which they need to know about the SSG.

As at the time of filing in this report, information monitored from the Akwa Ibom Government House went to prove that Udom’s impending visit to Uyo Elders are parts of the plans to sell the Udom candidacy to the people of the state especially those from Uyo Senatorial District who are fighting against the ambition of the Onna born technocrat.
