The Commissioner for Health, Dr. EmemAbasi Bassey has announced a replacement campaign for the distribution of Long Lasting Insecticidal treated nets across the State. The commissioner made this known while speaking with a team from the National Malaria Elimination Programme in his office recently.
He said that State supervisors are currently undergoing training to ensure the effective monitoring of the distribution of the mosquito nets when it is flagged off.
Dr. Bassey also hinted that engagement and micro planning processes for the campaign is ongoing to achieve the said goal.
Dr. Bassey noted that all the households in the State would have access to the nets which would be given at the ratio of two persons to one net.
The Commissioner hinted that the government has undertaken intervention steps to eliminate malaria in the State with the provision of Artemisia in Based Combination Therapies (ACT) in all health facilities for free treatment of complicated malaria as well as the supply of Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits (RDTs) in all primary healthcare facilities for quality diagnosis of malaria before treatment.
Dr Bassey restated the State Government’s resolve to cater for the wellbeing of the people of the State and called on AkwaI bomites to continue to put faith in the present administration.
