The state commissioner for Works and the dean of the college of commissioners Mr. Don Etim said the state PDP finance committee had a fruitful deliberation in their last meeting which was held yesterday (Wednesday) at the commissioner’s office. Mr. Don Etim who is the chairman of the finance committee stated this when he spoke to newsmen shortly after the meeting which had in attendance a greater number of members of the committee. He assured that the committee will not let the state Government and the party down and will do all it can to raise money for the party. And that in doing this, they will follow the law.
He also spoke on the need for the media to always remain on the path of truth, honesty and focus as according to him that will allow such media organization to build a niche and integrity for itself and will also make it a dependable ally in nation, state building and development. Don Etim maintained that the media does not need to be partisan and it should always strive to be as objective as it could noting that anything short of that is not journalism but politics. While urging the press to at all times strive to encourage the sanctity of the profession, the Works commissioner said, it is his belief that journalists should always be creative in all they do.
He also spoke on the state Governor Chief Godswill Akpabio and described him in glowing terms stressing that the Governor is an incredible leader that has touched all the nooks and crannies of the state. He said the state Chief Executive is indeed a man that has been able to turn the state around and make it a hub for activities. While describing Godswill Akpabio as a phenomenon, he called on the people to join hands with the Government to ensure that the story of the state is told everywhere. When informed that there has been an upsurge of pot holes in the state again, the workaholic Works commissioner informed that the ministry have sent some teams of workers to the mentioned areas to sort out the pot holes. He appealed to members of the society that they should always draw the attention of Government to anywhere they find pot holes so that Government can attend to them promptly.
Don Etim however reaffirmed the determination of the People of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area to stand by the Governor Godswill Akpabio even beyond 2015. Some members who attended the finance committee meeting of the PDP were the PDP treasurer Deaconess Owoidighe Ekpoattai, the PDP vice Chairman and Eket senatorial District Chairman of the Party, Hon Kennedy Akwaowo, the PDP legal adviser amongst others. Those absent had sent in their apologies, THE INK had learnt. The Works Commissioner however proceeded for an inspection at Tropicana, shortly after the Finance Committee meeting.
