Govt restates resolve to sustain polio-free status in A’Ibom State

The State Government has restated its resolve to sustain the polio free status in the State through aggressive preventive and interceptive measures in order to reduce infant mortality and childhood diseases to the barest minimum.

The Health Commissioner, Dr. EmemAbasi Bassey made this known during the monitoring of the Polio Eradication Awareness Campaign and second round of the 2014 Immunization Plus Days (IPDs) in the State at the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Diocese of Oron, Oron LGA.


Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Elder Essang Bassey, the State Commissioner promised to continue in the sustenance and active surveillance of vaccine for the prevention of the communicable diseases.

Dr. Bassey, while maintaining that Governor Akpabio’s administration is highly committed to the improvement of the health status of the citizenry, encouraged parents to release their children for the immunization which is free and safe.

He also charged all concerned not to relent in their efforts in protecting children through immunization to avoid any reintroduction of the communicable disease to enhance the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
