NPFL: Akwa Utd battle leaders Wolves tomorrow

NPFL: Akwa Utd battle leaders Wolves tomorrow
BY UBONG INYANG

Akwa United will be hoping to end their recent winless streak when they face league leaders Warri Wolves tomorrow Wednesday by 4pm at the Uyo township stadium in a week 11 encounter of the Nigerian professional football league.

Only a win will be on the agenda of Coach Patrick Udoh’s team after a disastrous showing last time out when they were annihilated three nil by Enugu Rangers.  The result meant that Akwa slumped down to fifth position heading into the encounter with the boys from Warri. Akwa’s home form has been formidable with two points dropped all season and a win will still keep them in contention for the title while the visitors may be aiming to cause an upset following their one nil home victory over Taraba Fc.

Beaming with confidence, Wolves possess an enviable away record and are deserved league leaders with 20 points after ten games and another away win will be a good result for them. Akwa, on the other hand, have 15 points to their credit and will be relying on top scorer Nnamso Edo to deliver the goods and shoot them to within touching distance of first position and shake off the challenge of Nassarawa united who are share the same points with them.

In other standout fixtures, second placed Giwa Fc travel to Heartland, Bayelsa United tackle Enugu Rangers at home while relegation threatened Sunshine Stars seek a miracle against Lobi Stars as they travel to Port Harcourt.
