Armed robbery attack: One killed, two escaped

Barely few months after the police and other security agencies in Eket and its environs successfully recorded a breakthrough in its fight against criminality, armed banditry and killings, a resurgence of similar activities as returned. In the latest armed robbery attack by a three man gang operating with motorbike at Ikot Udoma about 5.am, luck ran out of the hoodlums as youths of the community mobilize themselves to foil the robbery attack.

Correspondent gathered that the robbers about 5.am on that Friday morning at attacked an okada rider along Atabong road and seize is bike at gun point and zoomed off.
The same gang is suspected to have attacked and robbed some women of their money and other valuables at gun point who shouted and alerted the community of the incident.
Unfortunately for the robbers who scamper to their awaiting bike on the arrival of a young man who responded to the cry of these women, the man driving a Volvo vehicle pursued them and few poles away knocked down they robbers killing one of them, wounded the other while one escaped though not without injuries while the car swerved off across the kerb and hit some buildings.
When correspondent arrived the scene, it was gathered that men of the Nigerian Police, Eket command had towed the said vehicle with registration number Abia UNC 389 XA, and the remains of the dead robber to a morgue while the wounded is helping the police in their investigations.
An eye witness and a youth leader in the community, Mr. Bassey Edoho, applauded the gallantry of the driver Mr. Friday Ben for risking his life and vehicle to track down the robbers and thereby, foiled the robbery incident which occurs on a daily basis. He thanked God, that he escaped the bullets of the robbers.
He noted that victims of the early morning attacks are mostly women and traders who must go out early to board vehicles to their respective destinations.
As a reward for Mr. Ben’s bravery to foil the escape of the bandits, Edoho recommended him for honour by the elders of the community, disclosed, the resolve of the youths to repair his damaged vehicle. 
He applauded the police for their prompt response to the situation, and urged them to beef – up their activities early in the morning and late into the night when they carry out their operations. Items recovered for the robbers include pistol, bullets and mask.
