NUJ Chairman inducted as State Patron of the Boy’s Brigade Nigeria, AKS Council
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of  Journalists, Akwa Ibom Council, has been inducted as the Silver Jubilee State Patron of the Boy’s Brigade Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State Council.

At the investiture ceremony held recently at Union Secondary School, Ibiaku, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area as part of activities marking the 25th Anniversary of  Boy’s Brigade Akwa Ibom State Council and the 107th Anniversary of the organization in Nigeria, Elder Patrick Albert was formally decorated State Patron in line with the provisions of its constitution. Section (34) which states that “men and women of proven integrity and good Christian standing,” be appointed as patron of the Brigade Niger at different levels.
Decorating Albert with the paraphernalia of a State Patron, the state secretary of the Brigade/organizer of the event, Comrade Ekemini Robert Udoh, declared thus,  ‘’the Boy’s Brigade, Akwa Ibom Council, by your induction, decoration and acting in accordance with the constitutional provision certifies you today as State Patron because of your immense contributions towards the development of Akwa Ibom youths.”

While also presenting the membership card to Albert, Udo declared that, “by this presentation, you are now member of the Patrons Forum of the Brigade in Akwa Ibom State and we deem it fit to induct you as our patron having impacted positively on lives of youths in our state.”

He noted that Albert’s induction that day was quite historic as it came when the brigade clocked 25 in Akwa Ibom and 107 in the entire world, praying God to use him to do more  great things for the brigade.

The Brigade’s state secretary explained that the society which he noted is a non-profit making organization, preaches against cultism and involvement of children in it and that it cautions children from the age of four against cultism, as they are assets to their parents.

Udoh who described State Patrons of the brigade as  ”honourable officers” of the society, urged Albert to remember the “Boys and the role they play,” as he wears the paraphernalia of the Brigade.

The member for Nsit Ubium State Constituency, Mr Onofiok Luke, a lawyer, congratulated Albert for his induction as State Patron of the Boy’s Brigade, Akwa Ibom State Council, saying, “You are coming to a very noble group.”
Luke, himself a State Patron, recalled his journey in the brigade at a very tender age in life and his elevation to the present position, welcoming the NUJ Chairman to the fold.

The lawmaker extolled the qualities of Albert and the innovation he has brought into NUJ, which according to him, had never existed, noting that these has endeared him to members of the union and well wishers in the society.
He encouraged people to endeavour to do well whatever task that is entrusted in them and wherever they find themselves, observing that Albert through his leadership in NUJ has created a niche for himself, assuring adequate promotion and publicity of activities of the Brigade through Albert.

Luke maintained that by Albert’s induction as State Patron, history has been made.

Albert who was overwhelmed by the event, said he counted his new relationship with the noble group more important than any other relationship he is involved in.

He noted with delight, the silver lining of religious and Christian upbringing of members of the Brigade in Nigeria, the involvement of the young and fertile minds as members, the aims and objective of the Brigade which has to do with  tackling cultism and involvement of children in it, as well as the religious background, saying he was thrilled by all these.

Albert pointed out that the world cannot function better except individuals transform their positive imaginations, prepare their future from the present and nurture it properly, recalling that the greatest gift bequeathed by his father to him was counseling.

The Silver Jubilee  inductee made known that one can only achieve any good thing in life, if he prepares well for his future.

“The society can only function if tomorrow is prepared today. This tomorrow cannot come to past except it is well nurtured. The greatest gift my father bequeathed to me was counseling. I remember how he use to tell me that you can achieve anything in the world if you prepare for your tomorrow,”  he stated.

Albert was happy that the Brigade was promoting  anti- cultism in the state and pledged to join them in propagating the message.

He recalled how he met the NUJ Press Centre that was encompassed by an ancestral shrine that had existed for 200 years and how, he, through God, removed the shrine, which today paved way for development in the union.
He said he has accepted the honour done him and would be part of the Brigade as long as he lives.

Highpoint of the event was the declaration by Albert not to be involved in any secret society or cultism and Oath Taking as State Patron of the Boy’s Brigade in the state, where he pledged to uphold the tenets of the society and be there for them at all times.
