A former two-term Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area Rt. Hon. (Elder) Mfon Idung has advised the new administration in the state under the leadership of Mr. Udom Emmanuel to disregard unnecessary criticism, but should remain focused and concentrate on industrializing the state to create employment to the many unemployed Akwa Ibomites.
Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung who spoke with our reporter at Abak, explained that Mr. Udom Emmanuel started well by inviting God to take over the affairs of the state.
The former Chairman congratulated Mr. Udom Emmanuel and Mr. Moses Ekpo on their landslide victory at the April 11, 2015 gubernatorial election and subsequent inauguration as the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Deputy respectively. “I hope the new government will follow the footsteps of its predecessor and give Akwa Ibom people the benefit that we desire for. Moreover, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and Mr. Moses Ekpo are tested and seasoned technocrats and administrators.
The people of Akwa Ibom are hopeful that with their wealth of experience, they will take Akwa Ibom State to the next level of development. Truly, Udom is the best for Akwa Ibom” the former Chairman stated.
He specifically commended the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmenual and the leadership of the People Deomcratic Party (PDP) for the choice of Mr. Moses Ekpo as the Deputy Governor, the first in the history of the former Abak Division. “We all celebrate the victory and subsequent inauguration of our big brother, Uncle Moses Ekpo. He has never disappointed his people before. He has held several positions within and outside the state. So, with his experience, we believe Abak 5 will benefit from the present administration.
Rt. Hon. Idung who is the Chief Executive Officer, M & C Limited, used the occasion to commend the immediate past Governor of the State Chief Godswill Akpabio for the numerous infrastructure he has brought to the state and for laying a solid foundation for the incoming administration to succeed.
While congratulating Chief Godswill Akpabio, on his victory at the polls and subsequent inauguration, Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung expressed the hope that his sojourn in the upper chamber of the National Assembly would be of immense benefit to the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district in particular and the state in general.
On the emergence of the new leadership in the Senate, the former chairman described it as a victory for democracy and a plus to the PDP.
On the death of Dr. Ime S. Umanah, the PDP chieftain described it as a great loss not only to the people of Abak 5, but Akwa Ibom State in general. “It is painful. He did his best while alive in assisting those who came his way and also contributed immensely to the growth and development of Akwa Ibom State. He was a born leader in his own right.
We pray God to grant his soul eternal rest and give those he left behind the fortitude to bear the loss”. Rt. Hon. Idung prayed.
