The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Eket Unit Command, says it has apprehended 48 traffic offenders and convicted four others for violating traffic rules between April and now.
The Unit Commander, Mr Lucky Ugenlo, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
He said that the offenders were arrested for contravening various traffic-related offences such as : over loading, drivers’ not using the seat belts while driving , lack of driver’s licences, fire extinguishers, speed limit, road traffic and route violation.
Ugenlo said that those arrested were arraigned in a mobile courts headed by a magistrate provided by the commission for quick dispensation of justice.
“We apprehended 48 traffic offenders which appeared at the last mobile court sitting and it awarded an option of fine to some of them for violating various traffic related offenders.
“Four were convicted and sentenced to prison without an option of fine, because they were rude to the magistrate,’’ he said.
According to him, the mobile court forms part of the FRSC 2015 corporate strategic goals, which is to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules and regulations.
He said that the command had commenced massive public enlightenment on the need to drive safely during the raining season.
The unit commander said that campaigns were taken to religious houses and schools to enlighten and educating them on safety tips on Nigerian roads.
He advised motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations while driving.
