…pays unscheduled visit to Oron Monarch
The Paramount Ruler of Oron Local Government Area, Offong Odiong Akan has described the new Deputy Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Efiong Okon Bassey as an illustrious son of Oron, and a consummate politician who has throughout his representative strides been extremely industrious, compassionate, humble, and extensively open to all shades of people, groups and organizations.
Offong Akan extolled these sterling qualities of Rt. Hon. Efiong Okon Bassey during the latter’s unscheduled visit to Oron local government monarch in his palace at Uya-Oro, which incidentally is the home of both the deputy speaker and the royal father.
The paramount ruler expressed optimism that the lawmaker’s antecedents and pedigree would square and afford him the needed platform to do much more for the people of Oron/ Udung Uko constituency.
According to the royal father, the deputy speaker’s stint as the vice chairman and later Transition Committee chairman of Oron Local Government Council enormously ushered in an unprecedented uplift and economic empowerment, as well as infrastruc-tural development of Oron.
Offong Odiong Akan equally charged the deputy speaker to strive at all times to ensure that both his legislative and oversight functions offer the Akwa Ibom state government, the people of Oron/ Udung Uko state constituency and his colleagues in the legislature ample reasons to celebrate his elevation, and also appreciate the Almighty god for putting him in such an exalted office.
The royal father who assured Rt. Hon. Efiong Okon Bassey of continued support, prayers and loyalty also urged him to always seek divine direction in whatever assignment or decisions he has to embark upon as the number two man in the sixth Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly.
Responding, the deputy speaker explained that he had to visit the royal father first before any other function to intimate to him and inform him of his latest political elevation. He submitted that rather than the new status getting into his head or diminishing his positive attributes, the divine assignment entrusted upon him by the Creator, his colleagues, constituents and the government, will fire him on to perform better, and even propel him to surpass his previous achievements.
While soliciting the cooperation and prayers from all sundry, Rt. Hon. Efiong Okon Bassey promised to be fair, focused and steadfast in his approach to both his official duties and interaction with all who would come his way.
The deputy speaker vowed to work with all political, religious and traditional rulers, as well as his opponents. He however extended the olive branch to all those who contested the last nomination and election into the state Assembly in Oron/ Udung Uko constituency.
The highpoint of the visit was the outpouring of prayers and royal blessings for the deputy speaker and his team by the royal father.
