Thousands of Akwa Ibom people on Friday evening thronged the Awa Iman country home of the new State governor Mr Udom Emmanuel to celebrate and his inauguration as the fourth democratically elected governor of the State.
The event was an inaugural reception in honour of Mr and Mrs Udom Emmanuel by his kinsmen in Onna LGA.
Governor Emmanuel who was visibly elated by the show of love by his kinsmen promised to work hard to satisfy the aspirations of his people.
The governor attributed his victory to Divinity, saying that God has destined the state to be a model not just Nigeria but in the entire world.
He said that during the electioneering campaigns, he traversed the entire state and was able to comprehend the plight and peculiarities of people in different parts of the state, and re-assured that in the nearest future he will transform the state.
The Chairman of the occasion and former governor of the State, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga thanked Akwa Ibom people for electing Udom Emmanuel and reiterated his belief that the Governor will harness his wealth of experience in creating opportunities for the state.
Nkanga thanked Onna local government for producing and presenting an excellent Governor in Udom Emmanuel and for service to the state noting that “every triumph has a Cross” which in Governor Emmanuel case, is selfless service to the state.
The speaker of the State House of Assembly Elder Sam Ikon and the State PDP Chairman Obong Paul Ekpo congratulated the Governor and urged him to put smiles on the expectant faces of the people in line with the precedence of the immediate past governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
The leader of Eket Senatorial District, Chief Nduese Essien said the people of the district were excited because their son has emerged in line with their quest for justice, equity and fairness, and assured that Governor Emmanuel was not just a blessing for Eket Senatorial District, but will build on the achievements of the immediate past administration in spreading development to the entire state.
Chief Essien recounted that Onna local government has previously produced leaders who were outstanding in their responsibilities to the country adding that with his pedigree, everyone and be rst assured that Governor Emmanuel will make Akwa Ibom a living paradise.
Responding on behalf of the family of the Governor, Mr Gabriel Emmanuel Nkanang thanked Akwa Ibom people for the mandate bestowed on their brother and assured that the new governor will justify the confidence reposed in him.
Significantly, the Governor’s convoy was greeted along the major roads by enthusiastic crowd of supporters, women and youth who waved, chanted and cheered their new governor’s procession.
