The Deputy Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. (Otuekong) Nse Essien has described the Speaker of the 6th Assembly in the state, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko as the “perfect fit” for the job of speakership, adding that it is God who qualifies the unqualified.

The Onna State Constituency representative, who also doubles as the Chairman House Committee on Commerce and Industry said this while interacting with media men in his office at the Assembly complex on Monday.
According to the Onna Lawmaker “Hon. Aniekan Uko is excellently perfect for the job of Speakership in the sixth Assembly.

Don’t forget that he was a Councilor in the Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Council and a Former Organizing Secretary of our great party, the PDP, at the state level. So he has the cognate experience to lead the House. Twenty six members of the House cannot be wrong at the same time. Moreover, whatever he lacks will be given to him by God because God is the one who qualifies the unqualified so as to fulfill his word in the Bible which says that ‘He uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise’.

The Assembly man went further to state that the people of the state should expect the 6th  Assembly to make laws that will have direct impact on the lives of the ordinary citizens of the state.

Meanwhile, he used the opportunity to disclose his robust empowerment scheme for the people of his constituency. “I had promised my people that I will share whatever I have with them. To do this, I have adopted forty four (44) people from the forty four villages in Onna Local Government, one person from each village to empower in the first phase of my empowerment scheme. Some of them will be sent on skill acquisition programmes, some will be placed on my scholarship scheme, and the women will be empowered through co-operative societies with money to invest in small scale business.”

Otuekong Essien, who is also popularly known as Indomitable went further to say that apart from the forty four, he has some people whom he places on monthly allowances, many of whom are not from his state constituency but who work with him in one capacity or the other and had supported his aspiration. “Personally, I have taken a wage bill of about seventy people. My intention is not to dash them money, but to empower them through skill acquisition, education – which is the bedrock of human development, money for establishment of small scale businesses and so forth,” he stated.

He also promised to use his personal relationship with the state Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel to attract developmental projects to his constituency. This, according to him will be a very big avenue to create employment for the unemployed as well as develop the constituency infrastructural. He also promised to provide free health care to the elderly in his constituency by always organizing health care expeditions with medical specialists in different fields to take care of the health needs of the people.
